CLEMENS, Mich.– Matt Belletini of Birmingham, Mich., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 23 pounds, 15 ounces Saturday to win the Bass Fishing League Michigan Division tournament on Lake St. Clair. For his victory, Belletini earned $3,766.

“The day started fast,” said Belletini. “I had about 19 pounds by 9:30–10 o’clock. My co-angler had the tournament won by 11. He was smoking me in the back of the boat. He kept culling 4-pounders while I still had two 3 ½-pounders in the box. I really had to work to get the last two big fish; I finally got a 4- and 5-pounder in the last hour of the tournament.

“We were basically fishing one large area that had three key spots,” Belletini continued. “We were drop-shotting in 14 to 16 feet of water; I was using Nemesis Gobies. The bass seemed to be feeding on perch that were holding in the area.”

Belletini went on to say that it was a bittersweet day for him, as he lost two Dobyns rods in the lake.
