Baer Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament on Chesapeake Bay

NORTH EAST, Md. (June 30, 2008) - Boater Larry Baer of Elizabethtown, Pa., won the Bass Fishing League Northeast Division bass fishing tournament on Chesapeake Bay Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 20 pounds, 8 ounces. The victory earned Baer $3,630 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Albemarle Sound Regional Championship in Elizabeth City, N.C., Oct. 9-11, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

   Rounding out the top five boaters are Bruce Neal of Manheim, Pa. (five bass, 20-00, $2,136); Mark Schafer of Williamstown, N.J. (five bass, 16-15, $1,424); Walter Ross Jr. of Havre De Grace, Md. (five bass, 16-04, $997) and John McGraw of Bristol, Pa., and John Vanore of Mullica Hill, N.J. (five bass, 15-14, $818).

   James Hironimus of Harrisburg, Pa., took home the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award, earning $595 for a 6-pound, 2-ounce bass he caught on a jig.

   Gregory Selby of Hanover, Pa., earned $2,136 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 11 pounds, 12 ounces that he caught on grass beds at the mouth of the Susquehanna River.

   Rounding out the top five co-anglers are David Hanson of Welcome, Md. (five bass, 11-09, $1,068); Dan Fischer of Fredericksburg, Va. (four bass, 11-08, $712); Charlie Russler of Hedgesville, W.Va. (five bass, 10-14, $498) and Antonio Didomenico of Selinsgrove, Pa. (five bass, 10-09, $427).

   Jim Schneck of Jonestown, Pa., earned $297 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 1-ounce bass he caught on a tube.

   A two-day Super Tournament, the division's fifth and final event, will be held on the Potomac River in Marbury, Md., Sept. 27-28.
