St. Croix Avid Question To Users.

I read in some post....that St. Croic is overpowered...is this true about Avid series? Looking for HM Fast rod.....should I go with Medium if St.Croix?

Now is St.Croix Avid vs Shimano Crucial. Talking about spinning rods.

St. Croix Avid series is one grade over the stated power compared to many other brands.

Medium = medium heavy.

Almsot all my rods, spinning and casting, are St Croix's, a good general purpose length/power/action from them is the 6'8" Medium power, x-fast action. This rod is offered in the Mojo Bass, Eyecon, Rage, Avid, Legend Tournament Bass, Legend Tournament Walleye, Legend Elite, and Legend Xtreme blanks to suit any budget. I owned a 7' MH Avid spinning rod for a few years, it was a broom stick, personaly, that is not what I want in a spinning rod. I replaced it with the previously mentioned 6'8" M/XF Mojo Bass spinning rod, and find that to be a a much better rod for what I use spinning gear for. Mainly it is my flick shake, shakey head, and finesse jig rod, but I have also used it to drop shot, with jerkbaits, skipping docks, and probably a few other things I can't recall right now, very very versitile rod, and it would be my choice if I could only have one spinning rod.

I guess I like my rods a little on the heavy side because my worm rod is the 70mhf and I have a 70hf for jigs both avid series. I also have a 70mf that is a do it all rod!

This is the key right here. Rod ratings are subjective with no industry standard for power and action ratings.

Even within the St. Croix lineup there are huge differences in actual power. I have two 6'-6" medium power rods, one is an Avid with a very soft tip that is very close in power and action to My Loomis MBr782, and serves well for treble hook baits. My Medium power Legend Elite is much more powerful, very close to my Loomis MBR783 MH. So you really have to check out the rods for yourself. I would not use the 6'-6" Avid for worming or spinnerbaiting, but the Medium Power Legend Elite can do both...for me.

I use my 7'MH-F Avid for spinnerbaits and lipless cranks. I fish plastics with it too but mostly the moving baits

I believe your question refered mainly to the Avid series. (In my humble opinion)Yes they are a little stouter than many others of the same power designation. I have several Avid Medium extra fast rods and love them. They fish about like a MH of most other rods, But they have a much faster tip. I also have a Medium fast crucial thats a good rod. Not as heavy action as the medium avid, also not as light, or as sensitive as the Avid.

They are my favorite rods and get fished the most. I have a 7' M-F and 7' MH-F. To me they don't seem to be any heavier in action than most other rods with comparable action ratings. The ratings really mean squat though, the rod has to feel right to you.

I have 6'10''Fenwick MH Fast Smallmouth ( didnt use it yet) with curado G series....and I'm looking for spinnibg ''do all rod''..some float fishing, some worms......as I said with spinning reel.

I have a st croix legend elite 68mxf and it is a good setup for smaller weighted worms and "heavier" shakey heads. It is a little heavy for drifting minnows or trout fishing. If I had to do that one over again I would have gotten a m, but now that I have a Pinnacle 70mlf(which also fishes heavy, more like a m) I wouldn't buy anything else! I am a big avid fan, but consider the Pinnacle Perfecta!(also site sponsor)

You have a Fenwick.....they are definitely overrated. I have a med/lt spinning HMG 6'6" that I use for almost all my bass fishing with spinning gear. It can handle what you're talking about. I'd recommend staying with the Fenwick brand.

Haven't used an Avid spinner but I own a BC 7' MH that is as the others have stated.
