CigBrig61 Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Im looking at getting a new caster for under $200 and these are the two I like the best so far. What should I do? What have you heard? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 2, 2012 Super User Posted April 2, 2012 Between those two, Pinnacle, simply for their customer service. The first two Smokes I handled (a 100 and a 150) were both duds, straight out of the box. Now I know every brand has some QA/defect issues occasionally, but those odds were pretty remarkable. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted April 2, 2012 Super User Posted April 2, 2012 I got a Smoke 100 and a 150 because I liked the 100 so much. I believe the Smoke is the best reel Quantum has ever made, as for the Pinnacle, I tried to like them and the old OEM reels they made for Cabelas and Gander Mt. were made really cheap to the point of being labelee as disposable reels because they simply were not worth fixing. The new Tounrament class looks to be a lot better but I still am hasitant when pros like Scott Martin, who doesn't have anyone knocking down his door for sponsorship, turns them down in favor of Okuma. CigBrig61 Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 Customer service is a big deal for me just cause I've been screwed by some pretty big company's in the past. Quantum smoke I've heard has a loud cast and the paint isn't to fair but on the other hand buying a Pinnacle just doesn't seem right since they aren't a big reel company like some others. Okuma and Lews were two of my other possibilitys. Quote

You realize they, at one point or another, have made reels for all but a few of the reel manufacturers and make many of the store branded reels as well? Quote
CigBrig61 Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 You realize they, at one point or another, have made reels for all but a few of the reel manufacturers and make many of the store branded reels as well? Well what I guess I'm trying to say is I rather have a Ford then a Mercury or Panasonic over Dynex TV, if the Pinnacle out performs the quantum then that's what ill go with. but for close to the same price I would go with the more well known reel. Ive just recently been doing extensive research on reels, So the better question to ask would be is there a big enough difference in the quantum to choose it over the Pinnacle? Quote
buzzfrog Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 never had an high end pinncle but i own a smoke, depends on price, i have reall started liking the okuma baticasters Quote
