I'm buying one of these two reels today....My main question is, is the SX that much better than the S?

I'm buying this reel for swimbaits mainly but nothing huge, just the Mattlure baby bass and 6" Hudds...

The price on the S is $108 and the SX is $147....

Thanks for your opinions in advance!

Longevity would be the key element. In my opinion the SX is a little better built. I have one and I love it.

The S is a centrifugal brake reel and the SX is a magnetic brake reel. The SX has a couple of bearings in the level wind that the S does not, the S also uses a 1 piece spool shaft, while the SX makes use of the Infini spool design.

The reels are actually fairly different considering they are in the same family, if I were you I would try to get my hands on them and then make a choice.

Ill go against the grain and say Revo S. (and i own a SX) I just like the centrifugal brakes over the magnetic. All my reels from this point on will be centrifigual or both! Whatever works for you though. Id say get a Curado but i aint gonna oops i just did lol.

I prefer the S to the SX. I have had both and I hated the magnetic brakes on the SX and also prefer centrifugal brakes over magnetic. I will admit that I have relegated the S to be used on my punching rod after upgrading the stock drag washers to carbontex (even though the stock drag washers on Revos are pretty good) because the casting quality isn't terribly important with a 1-2oz lure. I gave the SX to my brother and kept the S - that's how much I prefer the S to the SX.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I went ahead and went with the S. I got an even better deal on price than I thought I could...never hurts to ask ;) So, for under $100 I figured I couldn't really go wrong.

I have Curado E's for most everything but didn't want to spend the money for the 300E and was a bit unsure of what the G series was going to bring to the table.....

Anyone have an opinion of the G series curado?

The G series Curado is a perfectly good reel that will perform well and last. Some Features are slightly scaled back from the E series but the differences are relatively minor. The same E series features are still available under the new Chronarch E label.

That's good to know about the G series. I will pick up one soon and add it to my collection. I don't know that I'd pay $200 to get a Chronarch that's really just a white Curado.

The redesign was to ensure that there would still be a quality workhorse reel at a pricepoint between the Citica and Chronarch. Also, in regards to the Revo S, there are no material or structural differences that would make the S hold up any less than the SX. Both good reels with different feature sets.

That makes sense about the Shimano. Also, good to know about the Revo S. I've seen a lot of praise on here and elsewhere that would suggest it's a very worthy reel at that price. I had the Revo Inshore which was one of the sweetest Abu's I've owned. I'm looking forward to the S for sure. I may pick up another one soon along with that G series Curado. I have a few E's left and I'm hanging onto them!
