Spinning Reel Suggestions

im in the market for a new spinning reel i have a shimanno and the problem with the bail arm is driving me nuts so i came to the conclusion new reel im willing to spend up to about 150 for a reel and saw the pinnacle reels which look for nice im gonna use it for mainly soft plastics and jigs looking for something that is durable strong and can hold a good amount of 10# line so any tips would be great

A 2500 sized Daiwa Tierra or Advantage should fit the bill. A 3000 sized Saros or Stradic should as well. I have a Tierra and really like it, very smooth and solid. I also like my Pflueger Supreme XT, but in 2 seasons of use it's showing its age.

Daiwa Tournament SS? Doesn't have the bearing count of todays reels, but there is something about these reels that I just like. Don't need another spinning outfit, but I'm tempted to buy the SS1300 while I still can. I have a 2000A that is a pretty good reel. Would have to buy used unless you can find a store with new ones still in stock. Sold new for about $180, but think I got mine for around $120 new, maybe less. Hell to get old.

Inches per turn is more pertinent than ratio but should't really matter that much to small spinning reels unless you fish like a mechanical robot and just burn a bait in. Many light baits are "worked", paused, jerked, jigged, I'm using my arm to work them and the reel just takes in the slack. I do not fish deeper freshwater, I do not fish for smallmouth anymore and I don't dropshot, for some that do ratio and ipt may be important.

I have a tierra and stradic both are small inshore salt water reels but the same rules apply, the best thing about these 2 reels is that in several years of use I have never had a wind using braid, I can't make the same claim about Abu and Pflueger, imo it's spool and bail design, but I just fish and don't get into technical aspects.

As far as casting, drag, durability, the above mentioned reels are pretty much on a par with each other.

I got one of the new stradic fj's and I'm liking it. It's way heavier than the ci4, but I would take the fj.

yeah ratio doesnt mean much to me but im looking for something extremely durable because i tend to throw my rod and reel a lot when i lose a nice fish so i have a shimano right now the shedona i think and it is nothing but a pain in the butt to me i saw the pfluger surpreme xt but thats just such a pricey reel i was really curious about the pinnacle reels but i wanted to see if anyone has used them

I have two Sahara 2500's and a Sahara 3000, which are now in their fourth year of heavy use, so I am curious as to what problem you have with the bail on your Shimano and what model you have. I assume that you always close your bail by hand and not with the cranking handle, which is how spinning reels should be used.

your right about that but the bail arm i got it last year and a design flaw there is just a small little gap and it catches on there instead of the roller and im afraid to sand it down in case i mess it up but it catches the line and its slowly starting to cut a little ridge into it and its driving me nuts i like the reel aside from that problem

Aint no bail arm of any brand spinning reel gonna last if you throw your outfits around like you say you do.

no like theres a little gap its a design flaw it catches the line when you cast it and engage the bail it slips into that little slot instead of the roller

I was in the same boat about 2 months ago and I really like my Daiwa Aird's and they are only $90. I have the 2500 and you get a spare 3000 spool with it. If your willing to go up to $150 look at the Daiwa Procyon.

Other honorable mentions are Abu Garcia Orra S or SX.

I haven't fished the Pinnacle spinning reels yet, but have been VERY impressed with the

Optimus XLT baitcasting reel. The Optimus spinning reel looks sweet to me!

If you're going to throw your gear around, you should probably stick with an inexpensive reel until you can control your temper. I'm not passing judgement, just bein' practical :)

ha i know it holds up very well and its only when i lose a good fish the reel holds up great to my abuse ha the only issue is the whole bail arm i'm afraid to sand it down due to the fact i could totally ruin the whole thing i really do like the pinnacle too they seem like very nice looking reels

Even inexpensive equipment will do the job if not abused. Losing a fish happens to everyone........PERIOD!!! If a person isn't mature enough to except that, chances are slim that they will ever be a good fisherman. It doesn't make sense to put your equipment at risk by throwing it around, cost you time on the water and money out of your pocket.

I personally would not want to share a boat or shore with some one like that.

I have a Sahara and know the gap you are talking about. You can apply a little silicone around the wire bail right up against the gap. I used a dropper bottle with a SMALL tip (just like reel oil bottles have). JUst be sure to use a very small amount! It smoothed out the gap and I have had no problems with the line catching there. Hope this helps!

No reel is designed to be intentionally tossed around, I'd suggest avoiding that practice. Bang for your buck wise the Pflueger President is hard to beat and the prior model is on clearance for as little as $40 (buy 2).

You can get it from any hardware store or wallyworld. I do agree with the rest of the posters though...stop throwing your rods!!!
