Chaz Hickcox Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 So I owe Roadwarrior an apology. This morning I compared the Cavitron with my formerly favorite Strike King Tri-Wing, and the cavitron kicked it's butt. I was only out for a little more than three hours and stuck with topwater all morning. I used the cavitron, and within 20 min of bein on the water I had a fish on, but unfortunatly he threw the hook. Then I switched to the Strike King, and for the next hour had nothing. I switched back to the cavitron and within another 20 min had a nice and healthy 16 inch bass. Not the biggest, but I'm not too worried about that. Unfortunately he got around a fallen tree during the fight and the branch that was sticking out of the water chewed up my Spiderwire. Because of that, my next cast had a small bird's nest, nothing too serious but enough to stop the lure in mid air. When that happened the spiderwire snapped and my cavitron was subsequently sacrificed to the fish gods. Then I switched to the Rage Tail Shad, no lookers so I decided to call it a day. Not the greatest day fishing, but hell it beats working and it was short anyways. Just for the record, I lost a Strike King Buzzbait the same way. With that being said I am going to be ordering a few more Cavitrons. Before I lost it I noticed that although it was faster on the serface than the strike king, the cavitron made a lot more and better noise. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted October 24, 2009 Super User Posted October 24, 2009 Now you know why i like mine.I recommend having a few of these buzzbaits, they definitely have their time and place. Quote
VolFan Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 You used my two favorites; they're both great baits. Depends on the day what I'm using, but I keep both of those around. Quote
Super User Marty Posted October 25, 2009 Super User Posted October 25, 2009 I've never used Cavitrons, but I have no doubt they're good lures based on what I've read. This morning I compared the Cavitron with my formerly favorite Strike King Tri-Wing, and the cavitron kicked it's butt. It's just not possible to draw conclusions like that based on one outing, not to mention a slow outing. I don't think that you or me or the world's best pros can catch enough fish, over a long enough period of time, under controlled conditions, to definitively say that one lure is better than another. I've used Strike Kings with tri-winged blades for years. Of course, it's impossible to know what would have happened had I used other brands, but it strains my credulity to think that results with other buzzbaits would have been significantly different over the long run. Super User roadwarrior Posted October 26, 2009 Super User Posted October 26, 2009 Marty, Buy a 3/8 oz Cavitron, Black on Black. I think you will be surprised. 8-) Quote
-nick- Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Marty,Buy a 3/8 oz Cavitron, Black on Black. I think you will be surprised. 8-) Yeah seriously. I used to never think buzzbaits were any big deal. I had tried a few different brands all different colors and never been impressed enough to use it frequently but then i got the cavitron and it just catches fish like no other. Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 26, 2009 Super User Posted October 26, 2009 It's mostly about a retrieve with a buzzbait, you can usually always get them if you are burning it until the blades fall off or super slow with a Cavitron. Sometimes the Cavitron will get them, sometimes the super fast way will. Quote
daviscw Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 I never use a buzzbait without a trailer hook. The Cavitron is my go to buzzbait, maybe even my go to bait overall. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted October 26, 2009 Super User Posted October 26, 2009 Cavitrons are decent but I have come to prefer other buzzbaits like War Eagles, they are also cheaper. The Boogerman Racket Buzz baits are pretty good too. They have a few sizes and a bunch of colors as well. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 I lost mine on the first cast. Yo Zuri line snapped mid cast and she went sailing. Quote
shootermcbob Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Matt 5.0, that really stinks. I have done that once before as well. makes my stomach upset :-[ Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Yep. It was awesome. If it had been on a spinning reel and the bail had closed it wouldn't have been so bad. It was on my Revo and about mid cast I just heard a pop and that was it. Quote

Didn't have another one so i made sure i stocked up after that. Quote

Bobby Uhrig Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 ALL BRANDS OF BUZZBAITS WILL CATCH FISH PERIOD THE END.There is no real control that will prove that one fish likes one buzzbait over another. it comes down to what the fish wants at that particular time. What I will say is we use quality components on all of our baits. They are made right here in the US and they are great for fun fishing -weekend warriors or pro's fishing for a living.Day in and day out they produce and are long lasting.I have had some for a few years with hundreds of bass on them- $5.95 compared to some baits-not a bad deal-purchase whatever brand you have confidence in. Absolutely, some days some presentations are more productive than others. I still like the Strike King for slower applications, but as far as I can tell a good sound will call em up. I also didn't mention that the one that was landed hit it and didn't kill it, so I had to immedetiately recast to the same spot which produced. I really meant this string as a touche for RW because his personal favorite out produced mine after I was giving him some crap. Quote

Thank you for validating the point I was trying to make. I respect the fact that you--as one with a vested interest--are not trying to make silly claims like "my lure catches more fish than your lure." I can readily accept verifiable differences in lures such as quality of components, hook sharpness, durability, tuning required, made in USA, or whatever. Whether it's a buzzbait, crankbait, hunk of plastic, jig or others, or the actual lure color, we're venturing into the unknown when we say one outfishes the other. Too often we tend to extrapolate and state as facts our preferences, biases and confidence factors. I have an incredible amount of confidence in Jitterbugs and that's the only topwater I want to use when conditions will allow use of treble hooks. But I never have and never will claim that it's better than some other topwater or that someone else will do better by switching to them. Quote

Marty - it seems that you are pretty adamant about what you are saying. By all means you're right. Heck I could fish a body of water with an old Luhr Jensen Kwickfish that has lost its paint and crappy old hooks on it and do much better than using the expensive new shallow running crankbaits. However, some people like certain things and will continue to use them. The fact is sometimes the fish will only be fooled by certain things and presentations, that's the fun here. People are here to talk about what is good for them, maybe you try it maybe you don't, but there's always the chess game of choosing how to use something properly in the right conditions. I say chess, but it's more of a crapshoot. Quote
Bobby Uhrig Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 What I do here is try to educate fishermen and give them options. Do I sell baits -yes- The reason I develop them is because all of my years on the water both above and below allows me to apply what I learn through my experiences. I have stated from the start -"Use what you have confidence with". On the open minded side- let me show you options you can apply to expand your fishing arsenal. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted October 29, 2009 Super User Posted October 29, 2009 I love the tri wing buzz king, but no buzzbait produces better action and catches as many bass and pike as a cavitron. It isn't even close, cavitrons are the best buzzbaits made. I've even caught several rainbow and brown trout on them. Quote
csizzle Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 RoadWarrior, Do you fish the black on black anytime you don't have direct sunlight (early morning, cloudy days, shade, sunset, night) or even on sunny days? I've always stayed away from black except for night, but might have to give one a try for other conditions. Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 I like the white w/gold blade cavitron. I've caught fish on it in so many different conditions. Middle of the day, without a cloud in the sky...and they'll still hit it. Quote
Koop Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 I have a mixture of Cavitron and R2S. Both great. Quote
