Super User Hi Salenity Posted April 1, 2012 Super User Posted April 1, 2012 So yesterday I went fishing for a while after I got a job finished. I was mainly wanting to dial in the fish finder on my new Kayak. So at around 2pm I went to my nearest lake, Osawatomie lake. after about 2 hours I decided to leave (about 4pm). So today I was going to take the family and do some fishing. As I was loading some stuff into my truck I thought, Hey I'll bring that BRAND NEW Rage rod I got YESTERDAY!!!! So I went to my van to get it and NO RODS? I think either I left the 2 rods laying on the ground as I loaded up the yack or I set them on my van and drove off with them on top. I guess I'm not sure the doors on my van were locked and someone may have taken them from my van overnight . So one way or another Someone has a nice Blue custom built (by me) 7' spinning rod with a Quantum reel and 7'11'' Rage rod with a lew's Tournament Pro reel. I hope they appreciate the gift they got . Super User tomustang Posted April 1, 2012 Super User Posted April 1, 2012 better check craigslist quick! 1 Quote
WookieeJedi Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Craigslist is a good start, then go check the pawn shops. If you give them a pic they can look for it and maybe even help catch the person who brings it in. By local, I mean local to the place it was stolen. Thieves don't usually travel too far with their loot, unless you are near a state line. If that is the case, go straight to the shops in the adjacent state. Also. report it stolen with the local PD, every pawned item generates a pawn ticket that is put into a database and checked against stolen property, the database is usually just in-state, so items taken across state lines never cross-reference.. It doesn't usually work, but sometimes people get lucky, especially with unique items. I hope you get your stuff back. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted April 1, 2012 Super User Posted April 1, 2012 I have to ask, did you at least register the Rage rod? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 1, 2012 Global Moderator Posted April 1, 2012 Dang man that is so rough luck! Those weren't your only 2 combos were they? Did you go back out to the lake to see if they were still there if you did leave them on the groud? I laid one down on the bank of a lake one time and forgot about it until the next morning. Thankfully mine was still there. Quote
scrutch Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Bad deal. You're not alone. We've all had something like this happen at one time or another. Quote
Simp Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Left a trolling behind once:(. How you ask? Well I was 16 and bought a 12ft boat that I would haul in the back of my Ranger. I then had to load everything into it TR motor. battery, rods ect. One day i just forgot the TR motor at the lake! Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 1, 2012 Super User Posted April 1, 2012 You can always replace property. You cannot replace lives. Be thankful that all you lost were two combos. One of the guys in my fishing club dropped his $300 rig overboard, and as he bent down to grab it out of the water he tumbled into the lake. His windsuit filled up with water and he had to go to the bottom and push hard with his legs to get to the surface. Lucky for him it was a lake and not a river for in a river the boat would have been at least 10 feet away and heading down stream. I seem to have the habit of breaking off the tips of rods either while fishing, in the SUV or at home. Sorry to hear about the combos but am so glad no one was injured. Quote
buzzfrog Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 yea may help if croix was registed,i have had chitty days, biut danged if that dont bite it Quote
Quillback Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I would go back to the spot and put up a flyer listing what you left and offering a reward for returning you rods. A buddy of mine knocked one of his rods overboard (he puts floaters on his rods), didn't see it happen so he kept on fishing, when he got home he noticed the rod was gone and figured out what happened. He went and posted some flyers at the nearest launch and several days later got a call from someone that had found his rod. If you get a custom rod built, have your name and phone number/email address engraved on it. A person can also make up a small sticker with name/address on it and attach to the rod. Most bass fishermen are honest people and if they find a rod at the lake will return it if they can contact the owner. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted April 1, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 1, 2012 I called the Police and left a name/number. I checked CL. I put a post with a $100 reward on Facebook. I'm thinking about the newspaper... I have plenty more combo's including another Tuned TP and another Rage of a different length but it still sucks loosing those 2 combos! Not to mention the hours I spent on making the spinning rod. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 1, 2012 Super User Posted April 1, 2012 Sorry to hear that. It really stinks. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted April 2, 2012 Super User Posted April 2, 2012 That sucks, but worst day ever? Quote
Traveler2586 Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Think of the spontaneous joy and excitement your loss has given someone; hopefully the rods found their way into the hands of someone that could never afford such nice equipment otherwise, they may recall their discovery many times throughout their life, and they will show them off with pride to their friends. Back in the late eighties I found a Buck twin blade pocket knife at a launching ramp, I was very happy with the find, and I have carried it with me everyday since - it's in my pocket now and I often think of the day I found it. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 5, 2012 Global Moderator Posted April 5, 2012 Man that is a nice looking combo. Should stand out pretty well, I'll keep my eyes open for it while I'm on the water. Quote
Big-O Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 That kind of CRAP happens to me more than I like to admit and I'm sure it will continue since I have no plans on giving up yet... And your story sounds so similar to many of my past situations too, I built my own rods for years and always try to keep everything in tip top condition! That kind of stuff makes me sick at my stomach especially when I'm not sure exactly how it happened... All to say "I FEEL YOUR PAIN BRO" www.ragetail.com Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted April 15, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 15, 2012 By now I hope my rods went to a good home and I'll probably never see them again so I broke down and bought another 7'11 Rage Today. Quote
Jacob34 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Man that blue rod is freaking awesome! I do feel for ya I left a $1200 fly rod outfit on top of my truck a few years backing hurrying to get out of a thunder storm in the high Unitas. Long story short I happen to notice a Fly rod and reel go zooming off the top of my truck. My heart just instantly stopped and like you I got bought it the day earlier and it was it's first trip out Quote
