Super User Gone_Phishin Posted April 1, 2012 Super User Posted April 1, 2012 My only Curado 200E has line on it so I can't weigh the bare spool - perhaps someone out there can get the weight. I do have a NIB Curado 50E on-hand and the spool (assembly) on it weighs 11.27 grams. I think the 50E has a theoretical advantage over the 200E in tossing lighter baits - the 50E spool is lighter, it also holds less line than the 200E so overall spool weight is lighter and start-up will be easier. Assuming the rod will load, my guess it that the 50E could toss a bait from 1/16 to maybe 1/8oz lighter than the lightest bait tossed by the 200E. Theoretically... Thanks for the info. I have both spools, unlined seeing as I live in the bitter freakin' north , and I will ask my brother if he can bring his scale over. I couldn't agree more with your technical assessment. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted April 1, 2012 Super User Posted April 1, 2012 Think the price on the display tag was $199 That always makes me laugh. The Gander Mountains around here are notorious for charging full price on outdated reels. Quote
Scorpio Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Soo..yeah. I'm pretty much done here. The difference is between your ears man. There's no build difference in the reels. Think what you want, you'll continue to be wrong. Correct. The Shimano reps say its the same reel. Hooligan is right. Quote
smbrule Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 I'd be curious as to what the two spools weigh. It is not just the weight of the bare spool that counts for casting light baits--it is the weight of the spool filled with line. For example: The Curado 200 e7 spool weighs 13.8 grams bare, filled with 14# mono it weighs 24.2 g. The Citica 200 spool by the way weighs 1 g. more The Curado 50e spool weighs 11.4 g. bare and 17.9 g filled with 14# mono. A significant difference in weight. Not asked, but for example of line weight differences (if one is picky) is: Chronarch 50 mg spool weighs 12.2 g. bare, with 14# mono 17.7g,, with 40 # power pro 16.6g. and with 10# Trilene XL 18.3 g. and with 10# Seaguar Invisix fluocarbon 21.8g. I've found the difference in spool weight to be significant in casting, and more importantly pitching lures weighing 1/4 oz. or less. For casting heavier lures my impression (I go back and forth on this) is that the Curado 200 e casts further than my 50e's. Perhaps because the spool ends up with less revolutions during the cast as the spool is wider. Quote
