Super User tomustang Posted March 31, 2012 Super User Posted March 31, 2012 I wanted my dad to get better gear since most of his... well all of his stuff is junk. So I told him to pick out some Lighting Shocks since they're probably some of the better choices when it comes to a budget rod. Well I took it out all this month. I worked with the 6'6" Medium/Fast and put a Curado 51E on it with 8lb copoly. Fished it several times this month and satisfying results. Although my area sucks for bass right now I did hook up on a bunch of trout, crappie, perch, pickerel in the 1lb range and a couple pickerel in the 2-3lb range. Mainly using inline spinners, swim jigs/baits ranging from 1/16th to 1/4" the rod held together nice and provided enough strength and action for an enjoyable time, to the point when I built more confidence in the rod. I must say I'm impressed with the price vs performance of this rod. At the time, late last year purchased, they were somewhere in the range of $30-35 at cabelas. Quote
Diggy Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I crank with the 6ft6 m. Works well, hooked a huge soft shelled turtle and muscled him to the shore with no probs Quote
WookieeJedi Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I picked up a standard Lightning Rod on sale at Wal-Mart for $10. It is a 7' medium spinning rod, and so far, it is great, especially considering the price. I paired it with an Okuma Avenger (also on sale, but at Cabela's). I still fish with a LR from the early 90's, a 6' MH baitcaster. Quote

I swear our local wally's can't clearance a price to save themselves 1 Quote
BrianSnat Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I bought the regular Lightning last year. A 6 and a half ft 2 piece medium light and liked it. Walmart had them on sale the past month for $30 down from $36. I picked up a 7ft one piece medium one Wed and it's still in my car with the tags on it. I'm thinking of going back and trading it for a 6 and a half foot one, only because the hallway shelf where I keep my freshwater rods only has a 6' 8" clearance. Quote
