urp Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I keep tackle and baits that are not actually on the boat on peg boards in the garage. Early this fall I came across a hundred count package of Mann's Jelly Worms, purple. I bought those worms at the original LL Bean in Maine sometime in the 60s when Bean was still an outdoorsman's paradise, before it became a jet-set hangout--but I digress. Back in those years--when most of you guys were still crappin yaller--purple was THE color. I decided to give them a try. 1/4 oz weight, 4/0 hook, Texas rig and the fish went nuts for them all this fall. So you oldsters, look thru your old stuff and give some of it a try. You just might be surprised. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted October 20, 2009 Super User Posted October 20, 2009 I have still have some and catch fish using them on certain bodies of water, and they are purple with an assortment of colored tails, yellow, white, pink, orange. Quote
broncoboxer Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I've always liked purple lures. And I wasn't even alive in the 60's... Quote
Al Wolbach Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I still have about 200 left but I believe I read that they are still in production or back in production. They are a little firmer than most of todays worms but they still catch fish and still smell like grape......Al Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted October 23, 2009 Super User Posted October 23, 2009 SHHHHH about the jelly worms he-he-he Quote

Super User K_Mac Posted October 23, 2009 Super User Posted October 23, 2009 BigRick that was my first time seeing this video. Absolutely amazing. I don't own a jelly worm, but now I have to buy a bag just in case... Quote
Mottfia Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Haha I remember those worms. when I was first starting to get addicted to fishing. My brother and I stole a bag of red translucent worms from my dads tackle box and went to the pond. I can't remember catching anything but those worms stayed as my brothers favorites since then. gar-tracker Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I used to catch a lot of fish on those, and the motor oil Manns as well. Yup purple was the first color besides black I remember throwing. Signed: Another Old Fart Quote
Elite Image Fishing Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Great worm. I remember my uncle having those in his wooden boat, I never fished em' though. I am probably missing out on a great experience. Quote
tholmes Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Wow, Mann's Jelly Worms. Now there's a blast from the past. And they're making 'em again? JacobK - If memory serves me correctly (hey, it WAS the sixties ) I used the 6" and 8" sizes the most. Purple was my favorite color, but I also caught fish with the red, black and motor oil. Super User iceintheveins Posted October 29, 2009 Super User Posted October 29, 2009 Straight tail worms like the Jelly Worm catch lots of fish. I also like the 6" Creme Scoundrel as a trick worm, rigged weightless on light line in the shallows. Quote
Rangerjoe Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Blueberry was the color I did best with. Another worm was the Jakes tournament worm in Black/Grape. Quote
