Super User bigbill Posted March 29, 2012 Super User Posted March 29, 2012 My two hottest spinnerbait setups from shore are; 1. 1/8oz brass blade up sized from the orginal with a glimmer blue skirt with a trailer hook and a mister twister split double tail white trailer. I trim the larger skirt to fit the 1/8oz spinnerbait and then trim the 2'' MT split double tail trailer to size it to the spinnerbait. You need to adjust the trailer till it runs exactly straight. Then one shot of YUM. 2. 1/8oz brass blade up sized from the orginal with a chartruese skirt with a trailer hook and a mister twister chartruese trailer. Again you need to fit it all and adjust the trail so it runs straight. Presentation is a big factor too. Depending on how active the bass are you can run it above or below the sight line. Either way you should have success. With my two successful setups posted how about some more tips on your setups for the bigger spinnerbaits?? Bill Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted March 29, 2012 Super User Posted March 29, 2012 What you basically did was a slight upgrade to a beetlespin, those types of spinnerbaits catch fish but I stay away from them as the places I fish , they tend to catch a lot of bluegills and perch. Since I make my own spinnerbaits to match certain situatations I really don't know of 1 that isn't the best in its own right at certain times but for my money the best "all-purpose" spinnerbait would be a 3/8oz in white with a #5 indiana main blade in nickel and a #2 brass colorado blade as the secondary, that is a bait you could fish fast or slow in clear water or dirty water and from the surface to 6' deep. flippin and pitchin Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 For years and years a 1/4 oz. was my duty bait. The manufacture went out of business. Now I fish 1/2 oz. baits 95% of the time for both LM and SM. I run two primary colors depending on water color, bluegill or glimmer shad. Blade configurations change with conditions with a double willow getting the most duty. Just a little off the subject. I picked up one of the Plano 3700 series spinnerbait boxes, the one that you sit them up and clip the arms in place. It holds 39 baits and works awsome. I reccommend that box to anyone who is looking for a way to keep their spinnerbaits. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted March 31, 2012 Super User Posted March 31, 2012 The old Stanley 1/8 oz spinnerbait gets a lot of play in ponds and small lakes, catches everything. I like shiner/pumpkin skirt and gold blade. #2 for burning, #3 for rolling. Sure you'll catch a lot of dinks, but I've caught fish over 6 lbs on them. 1 Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted March 31, 2012 Super User Posted March 31, 2012 My primary bait is a Northstar 3/4 ounce in New Gill Willow/willow Gold/gold with a 4" Lake Fork Hyperworm trailer- green pumpkin gold/purple with a 2/0 Gamakatsu trailer hook. I fish a 3/4 about 99% of the time, whether it's in 6" of water or 30 feet. It's far and away the most productive spinnerbait I've ever fished. Last year just shy of 800 fish fell victim to that setup. This year I'm in excess of 300 fish, and I'd have to say, without actually counting, that 200 have been on that bait. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 31, 2012 Super User Posted March 31, 2012 Right now Stanley's Vibra-Wedge, double willows gold, white/chartreuse/blue skirt, 1/2 oz Quote
