Quick question for the wacky-rig aficionados; When using nail weights, where do you place the weight? Seems like the middle of the worm would preserve the action better than sticking the weight on one of the ends. But may the off-axis position creates a different kind of action.

I put them dead center in the worm... Then I put my hook through the worm so the weight is "behind" the hook. I feel that I get more use out of a worm this way. It's a lot harder to tear a 1" nail wieght out of the worm then a tiny hook. Another tip: Use a toothpick instead of a nail wieght in the same manner... It still strengthens the worm, but allows a slower fall. (recently read that in a magazine)

Good luck, BJ

In all the years I've wacky rigged Senkos, I've never had the need to weight them. And sometimes I'm fishing water in the 25' - 40' range. A little patience is the best sinker.

If looking for a quicker fall ever tried wacky jig or flick it?

Senko style baits, no weight. For baits like the old jersey rig or similiar, I put one or 2 small brads in one end.

Total garbage! Those don't work one bit!!!! :eyebrows:

Anyway....Neko rigs. You might want to experiment a little with it. You MIGHT have some interesting discoveries.

These work awesome and even a real GYBC Senko last a while with them.

Pretty cool! I'd buy 'em if they came in worm matching colors.

I insert a 1" paneling nail in the tail of a Trick worm to achieve a horizontal fall which killer on post-spawn bass.

The only time i put nails in a wacky rig is if im not actually wacky rigging, but instead Neko rigging. The hook goes in the same place but a nail goes into the head of the worm so it ends up sinking headfirst. If actually wacky rigging and need a bit more speed on the fall, or in heavier cover i use an Owner wacky jig (1/32-1/8 oz)
