fisher of bass Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 trying to put a list together for myself, sometimes when im on the water and not catching them,i look thru my tacklebag and get overwhelmed,so im gonna make a list of lures on a piece of paper, for example if its sunny and windy, spinnerbait, buzzbait.ratteltrap, crankbait, in appropiate colors, sunny or cloudy and calm, swim jig, flip and pitch soft plastics, frogs when possible cloudy and rainy and so on and so forth does anybody else do this, usually the night before i watch the weather and set up my rods that way. my question, what do you use when its gonna be....sunny and calm, or sunny and windy etc Quote
hatrix Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I do pretty good with suspending jerk baits on windy days. Today the wind was strong enough to knock over small children and old people it was so bad. I slayed them with a erratic shard catching around 40 in under 2 hours. Jigs and creature baits seem to excel for me also when there is some wind. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 28, 2012 Global Moderator Posted March 28, 2012 I usually carry most of my baits with me every trip and have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to use by the conditons but I don't seperate it out or anything. If I seperate it at all it will be by stuff I use in certain seasons, like my topwater box stays at home November-March most years. Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 30, 2012 Super User Posted March 30, 2012 What to throw? Texas Rig or Jig-N-Craw When do you throw them? 24/7/365 Where do you throw them? On any structure, in any cover @ any depth Quote
Super User bigbill Posted March 30, 2012 Super User Posted March 30, 2012 First thing at around 4am to 5am i throw my BPS topnocker in chartruese(spook) I put a good shot of scent on it and toss it as far out as i can in the channel along side the weedline. I will walk it all the way in. After a few casts in the channel in different directions I switch to a Rebel BIG Claw crawfish crank that dives 10' its the D74 model in green chaw black black. I throw this along side the weedline as far as i can throw it and give the rod a sweep so it dives befor i crank it. I reel it slow keeping in bouncing on the bottom. I work this one with a few casts also. As the sun comes up I switch to my bomber FAT A in apple redcraw. I go from the channel into the submerged weeds since this one floats. I pause it over the weed pockets were i can. The fish can hear the rattle but it takes time for them to find it. When all else fails i go to the inline spinners (#3) and spinnerbaits (1/8oz) using different presentations. Next i go back to basics with a rapala orginal floater in blue/white. My chartruese cranks are next. Most of the time this plan will work. But if all else fails i throw everything in the two 9606 tackle boxes. If all else fails i throw everything a second time changinmg my presentations with everything. I do switch to my plastics often too like my swimbaits and senko's. The last time this happened it was a tough day and i wasn't giving up yet. When i put on a bomber in chartruese crank that runs deeper i landed my first bass. I was tired and about to leave it was just one more cast. My point is stay focused and motivated when using lures. Its a learning process everytime i go fishing even now too. Fishing from shore i have the option to run and gun between 4 or 5 places that are fed by the same river i'm just down stream. Quote
