royal0014 Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Ok, so I finally got to make a trip to BPS in Leeds yesterday, only because the wife had a Dr's visit close by. Fell for all the hype on this site and picked up a pack of Rage Craws and a pack of Baby Craws, both in green pumpkin. Also got 2 of BPS Pro Jigs in 3/8oz, just 'cause they were only $1.69 each. I intend to order some Northstar hair jigs, just haven't gotten around to it. And a pack of 3/16 finesse drop weights to make up a few jika rigs. My thoughts are to use the Craws as jig trailers, and the Baby Craws on the jika using 3/0 wide gap worm hooks (Conquer from WM). What about a finesse worm on the jika, or is it strickly creature baits? I have both round and finesse weights for the jika in 3/16oz. Thanks for the insight guys. Won't get much time to fish this year (have not been, yet) so I want to make this best of my efforts........ Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted March 28, 2012 Super User Posted March 28, 2012 Use the baby rage craw for a trailer on a 3/8oz jig, rig the rig the regular rage craw on the jika rig with a 3/0 ot 4/0 hook. A finesse worm would work but you could accomplish the same thing using a drop shot or shaky head, the jika lets you present a creature bait in a different way which is why I would go with the craw on it. I use rage craws as a trailer for swim jigs in 3/8oz but I make my own and I know for a fact I'm using a bigger hook than most production model 3/8oz jigs but the baby rage will work just as well. I know a lot of things we hear is hype but the rage craw is a really good bait and I'll tell you, I don't care for Strike King plastic baits, but they really have a winner with the rage series and the craw is the best of them, you won't be sorry. hatrix Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I would use scew lock hooks on the rage products. There kinda pricy compared to other plastics but with a screw keeper you can catch like 20 fish on one bait so long as u don't loose the claws. Quote

Put whatever you want on the jika rig, so long as the hook matches the bait. Care to elaborate a little, share the knowledge?? Thanks guys Quote

Thanks guys What he means is you don't want your jika rig using a heavy duty 4/0 EWG superline hook to fish a finesse worm or a 2/0 lightwire hook with a 5" creature type bait. Whatever the plastic you are going to use make sure the hook on your rig works with the plastic you are using either big or small, don't try using the same hook for a creature bait and then use it to thread a finesse worm on instead of changing out the hook. matstone7 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Congrats on your recent purchase, you made a good choice. I would take the craw and use it on a T/rig, a stand up jig head, a rage rig (shown below) or as a trailer on your jig. That baby craw is a perfect trailer for a finesse jig, a compact bigger jig and is just amazing rigged alone on a jig head. As for the Jika Rig... the sky is limited only by your creativity. Just match the hook to your bait. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 29, 2012 Super User Posted March 29, 2012 Care to elaborate a little, share the knowledge?? Thanks guys Go into your tackle bag, pick out a plastic bait, rig it, and fish it. No secret knowledge. If you have access to a kiddie pool or something where you can see what the rig does to each bait, I'm sure you'll think up something that will entice fish. Here's a small bone, though: Kietech Shad Impact. Work it fast along the bottom, with long pauses in between, like a suspending jerkbait. Quote
