Fishing In Florida Ponds And Lakes Around Businesses

Okay I made it to Jacksonville FL. for my 6 weeks of training. Got my Florida fishing license and went fishing in 3 pond/lakes with no success. I know one of the lakes has bass because I can see them swimming around from a balcony overlooking the lake.

What should I be fishing with??? I tried a t-rig 7" green worm, t-rig lizard watermelon, black frog, white frog, perch 2.5" rattle trap. Even tried ultra-lite with a roadrunner jig..

They got lockjaw. I fished last night until the skeeters tried to pack me off..

The bottoms all are covered in the green slimy crap and there are no lily pads. I'm fishing from the shore.

I'm going fishing now and will check back later to see what I've been doing wrong.

I seriously don't think you can go wrong just slowly swimming that worm(if it's a curlytail) or lizard. If you've been dragging it you may not have much luck if the bottom is slimy like you stated. Put a 1/4 ounce bullet weight and swim those worms and lizards just fast enough to get the tail or legs squirming and I have no doubt you'll start getting them. You could also just try lifting your rod tip and letting it fall all the way back. Good luck man, you may get a monster out of those little ponds.

thanks I'll give it a try. I've tried swimming them but I have had a 3/4oz sinker. I think I have some 3/8oz.

1/4 ounce or lighter. The slow fall and undulating appendages or tail usually gets those inactive bass to bite. It's just to easy for them to pass up.

There is a 1/2 acre retention pond located next to a Target off of university drive in Coral Springs that is loaded with bass, huge cichlids and bream. Some bass up to 5-7 lbs. Beds everywhere. There is a fence around it, so I guess they do not want anyone fishing there. The bass actually come close to you looking for food (bread etc). I would imagine a trick worm dropped in there would be easy pickings. I think I will park my boat parallel to the fence and have a go...lol

got 2 bites on a 10" purple worm. Watched on bass pick it up by the tail but never took it into it's mouth so that I could set the hook. as far as the senkos, wacky rig or what? I've never used senkos but I did bring a bag of watermelon senkos. Weightless? Can a baitcaster with 10# floro be used???

I fish the ponds in Orlando area dailly. I use a watermelon purple red fleck power bait worm and its almost guarantee. I use more of a bounce across the bottom. The bottoms are so slimmy and vegetated that you can't drag it without it coming up covered. So I let it sink then jig it up and let it sink again.

When I started fishing FL I used the same weight and hop/drag that I used back in PA. Dosen't work well here, the bottoms are to soft and slimey. Try dropping down to a 1/16 oz bullet weight and slowly swim the worm. Junebug always works good as does Black with Blue tail.

You'll be surprized at how many bass will hit it this way.

Yeah, that was my question, what do you do when the pond you are fishing has a slimey bottom? For some reason the majority of the ponds I fish have nothing but slime instead of sand.

caught 1 3# today. Thanks for the suggestions. I did go down to 1/4 sinker. I try lighter once I get to a tackle shop

Does anyone thing a drop shot setup would work??? I wonder if it would keep the bait up off of the slimey bottom..
