what are the specs you guys look for in a deep cranking rod an all around cranking rod and a lipless crank rod also what rods would you recommend

The BPS Crankin stick has a good rep here. Me I'm using a last year model 7' M-MF Crucial for my all around rod.

This is what I like, and some of it is based on the conditions I fish, so it may, or may not apply to you.

For Deep Cranking: I want a long rod...at least 7'6" (I am using a 7'10" now) , for casting distance, I want the baits down to there max depth as long as possable, and long casts help that. I want a moderate, of moderate fast action, again it also helps with casting distance, a mod action rod "loads" better than a fast and really helps get those baits out there. Also with the bigger deep diving cranks I use, the moderate action helps keep fish pegged. It has a parabolic bend when it loads with a fish that keeps steady, mild, pressure on the fish, not giving them any slack or leverage to throw a big crank. Rod power depends on the MFG. of the rod, my current rod is a H power, and it handles 1/2-1 oz baits perfectly, it has the right blend of power and flex to move big fish away from cover, which was a problem for me with a MH powered deep cranking rod, I felt like once a good fish bite I had ZERO control over where and what that fish was taking me into. I want a rod that weighs less than 5 oz., and a I want a graphite cranking rod, not glass. For the weight, and for the feel. I fish around a ton of grass, I am either ripping it out of deep grass, or running it down a grass line. I want to maximize my feel of whats going on down there.

I don't fish water deep enough to need a deep cranking rod. My all around cranking rod is a Falcon Cara 7' Medium...not a Reaction series rod. Never fished lipless crankbaits, but recently purchased a couple to try. My Falcon Expert rods have a nice parabolic bend so I assume they would also work well for crankbaits. Used would be your only option, tho, for one of these rods.

Should I ever fish where a deep crankbait would be feasible, then I guess I would try my 7' MH Airrus Ultra XL.

I use a 7'0 MH David Fritts American Rodsmith rod for all my cranking

It's not "ideal" to have one I know, but it is for me b/c I need an all purpose cranking rod that does it all.

It keeps my numbers of rods down on another guy's boat and when I fish smallies deeper it works just fine as well as the grass shallow for largies

I guess it is an option as it do-it-all tool

I like the Quantum KVD Tour rods for all my cranking applications. I like the 7'10 MH for deep cranking. I use the 7'4 M for my "all around" cranking rod. For lipless cranks and smaller/lighter cranks I like the 7' M.

I currently have 2 designated cranking rods. For small to medium weight and shallow to mid depth i use the previous version of the shimano crucial TC4 cranking rod. It's the 7 foot Med Mod cork handle rod. And for larger, heavier deeper divers i use the 7 foot Heavy Mod fast Cumara Reaction series..

I use a MH-MF for deep cranking and I want my rod just a little more on the fast side since I want my bait deep but not with the rod bent in half by the time it gets down. I was using a BPS cranking stick until my Fenwick Elite tech smallmouth 6'10" MH-MF. Not only is it long enough that I can get distance on my casts but it is still in the realm that I can use it for jerkbaits as it works really well for them. For shallow to mid depth cranks I like a rod to have a little more flex than my deep cranking rod, the Falcon BuKoo 4-17 is perfect, 7' M-M up to 1/2oz. For those lipless cranks I like either a medium heavy fast or a MH moderate fast if it is like my deep cranking rod which has a fast tip but deep flex under pressure, you need a fast tip to allow you to rip the bait free from weeds which is my favorite way of using a lipless. For the money it is hard to beat a BPS Crankin' stick, they just work.
