Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 24, 2012 Super User Posted March 24, 2012 mind me asking why? because the rod weight is 10-20 I've come to consider these ratings as a guide only. If I feel like using 8# mono with a rod having that rating, then I use it. How about people that use 80# braid on a rod rated for 15-30 pound? I look at it this way, if I use lighter line than suggested what is the worst that can happen? Break the line, right? If I use 80# braid I could break the rod. Everyone has had their line snap on occasion. Mostly with mono or fluoro, but I've snapped a lure off casting with 30# braid as I'm sure others have also done. Didn't hurt the rod and it is rated for 10-17# line. A little common sense goes a long way. You should have a feel afer awhile for how much pressure you can put on a line. If you must pull the boat over to where the lure is caught by using the line, don't high stick the rod. Common sense. Quote
