I have the same problem. Located near WI border, as well. McHenry County. Fishing the Fox, and nada. I was using carolina rigs, texas rigs, cranks, soft plastics, spoons, jigs. Anything I had was on the line, and maybe a bite. But I am pretty sure it was snags.

If anyone figures this out, please keep me posted. I did not try live worms. I am unsure of how to fish them without a bobber

TheSaladYears My son has been fishing the Fox river between Mchenry and Algonquin dams. Jigs and crayfish baits have been working. He hasn't caught much before 10am. The water temps have gone up almost 20 degrees in the last 3 weeks. He was on the Chain today 15 fish all on jigs. 5 keepers and 10 shorts. 2 keepers at 8am and the rest of the fish after 10. I'm heading out to the Chain in the morning first time this year. PB&J mop jigs are my favorite color on the Fox with black and blue in a close 2nd.

bassking, don't know much about that area but I was up in the Dells today. on the ride up, saw a bunch of people fishing at Rock Cut. Where do you fish out that way?

Temps a bit warmer down here, but have been catching them on rattle traps and worms mostly. Temps up, but still just fishing points and secondary points.

By jigs do you mean jig heads or some sort of skirted jigs. I am new to the sport, and have heard people say jig this, jig that. I was in Canada over the summer and we murdered on jig heads with minnows.

I have one skirted jib type bait, and it has worked fairly well for me in the past year. Any explanation would be much appreciated.

Also, I went Sunday morning at 730-10. That could be a problem.

Those would be skirted jigs in 3/8-1/2oz sizes. Attach a trailer. This year I am trying Rage Craws on the recommendations of people on this site. There are some site sponsors like Northstar jigs, which I highly recommend because of their quality, and Siebert Outdoors, which I haven't tried yet, you may want to look into. As far as non site sponsors, I normally use Buckeye. You can't go wrong with variations of black n blue, PB&J, or some type of green pumpkin. I spend alot of time fishing the Chain. If you have any other ??? don't hesitate to ask.

I was out todayfrom 7-11am, with the big temperature drop and the ENE winds blowing 20mph. Caught a handful of short fish, all on jigs. Very light bites. The bass were picking up the jigs and swimming with them. I really needed to watch my line to detect the bites.

Thanks Slone. Any tips on locations?

I usually go to Lake Barrington, a gated community where my grandma lives. It is quite easy to catch bass. Otherwise I am on the Chain, primarily Pistakee and surrounding bays. I shore fish.

Any pointers would be appreciated. Also, have you ever been to Three Oaks Recreation in Crystal Lake/LITH? It costs a bit of money, but was thinking of checking it our in a couple weeks. They open in mid april

3 oaks is loaded with good #'s and sizes of large and smallmouth. I haven't been there but my son was there a couple times last year and did ok. He also shore fishes some areas on the river. I can get there by boat but have no idea how to drive to the locations. I can ask him and get back to you.

I also sent you a PM
