Ej Thomas Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Buggs is fishing good now by the first of April they should be in full swing for the spawn. Fish right across the launch to start throw spinnerbaits and cranks early go back into the creek and right under the bridge fish the right side jump across to the red clay point. Under the bridge start using plastics. Green pumpkin watermelon red flake good colors. Bring your shakey head its a killer. Fish the right side all the way to about mid way back. After that find coves off the main lake, if you can find your way to grassy creek another money place. Hope this helps. Quote

Five-Alive Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Just an FYI, Oconeechee has good ramps and plenty of parking but be advised the Anglers Choice tournament comes out of there on the first Saturday in April. We had 223 boats in our first tournament on Smith Mountain Lake. http://www.anglerschoicemarine.com/tournament-trail/schedule-info-results.html Quote
hulagrubman Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 i am fishing the anglers choice 1 Quote
Five-Alive Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Cool deal, I just wanted to give a warning, I would hate to see you get stuck in the middle of the madness if you weren't fishing the tournament. We will be on my boat, a 1997 Red w/silver stripe Ranger R-80 with a Mercury 150, be sure to say hello if you see us and best of luck. Dewey Knight, Collinsville VA Quote
heyitskirby Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Cabela's KingKat tourney is on the 14th as well. I imagine there will be a big turnout after last summer's big catches. Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 27, 2012 Super User Posted March 27, 2012 Dogwoods are in bloom so the bass are on their beds at this time. In April you will find some on the beds and some coming off the beds. The big ladies will be tired but hungry so think plastics. Google the George Braswell Dam for their water level reports plus any Kerr Reservior blogs you can find. If I had my computer I would share the data with you but I am on my wife's computer so I don't have the web addresses with me. Normal pool is 300. You want the water level to be 303 and higher to have the water "in the bushes." Throw baby brush hogs into the bushes if the water level is over 303. Otherwise you may want to consider the Carolina rig and moving baits such as cranks and spinnerbaits. The weather has been warm in Virginia so you may want to consider throwing topwaters first thing in the morning. Throw plastics at all wood you see and hit the banks and creeks and coves. Get a GMCO map of Buggs/Kerr and study it. There are a lot of rocks off points in the Clarksville area so think football jigs and Carolina rigs. Good luck and don't forget 1) your fishing license and 2) to have a throw cushion in plain sight on the boat. These are the "hot" buttons for our DG&IF conservation officers. Quote

Sam - You've mentioned the throw cushion before...whats the rule on that? Mine is on top of everything in the compartment I stow it in....does that work? Had a courtesy Coast Guard inspection once and they said it just need to be easily accessible with nothing on top of it...... Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 29, 2012 Super User Posted March 29, 2012 Throw cushion has to be in plain sight, not stowed in a compartment. Be careful when you move around that it does not fly out of the boat. Only one has to be noted, even if you have two or three people in the boat. Have fun! Quote
hulagrubman Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 hey guys looks like it is upon us. does anyone know the color of the water near clarksville? i see the lake is at 304 so the bush deal should work. look forward to coming but not filling the truck and boat lol Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 5, 2012 Super User Posted April 5, 2012 Check out Kerr or Buggs Island on Google for fishing information and water clarity. With the water level at 304 you will have lots of fun pitching and flipping your brush hogs, plastics and jigs into the bushes. You can throw a spinnerbait and Chatterbait, too. Good luck. Quote
Five-Alive Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Clarksville was still muddy last Saturday, the water was 306 but still seems to be being drawn down it was 303 earlier this morning. Going down tomorrow to look around, good luck on Saturday!! Quote
heyitskirby Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Clarksville still muddy, but Rudd's Creek is clear looking from 58. Water is dropping now, don't know exact elevation. Quote
hulagrubman Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 is it worth fishing the muddy water or go down and look for clear water? Quote
