SuskyDude Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 LOL. I was merely replying to someone who called Tebow lucky. Did you miss my closing sentence? I was a Giants fan before there was a Boston Patriot football team. However, I lost interest when the NFL players went out on strike. I did get to see the Giants finally win it all after years of frustration back in the 50s and 60s when they lost to Johnny Unitas and the Baltimore Colts, Bart Starr and the Green Bay Packers, and the Chicago Bears. After that they declined to the depths of futility for a couple of decades. Anyway, this was how I closed my post. The lucky comments were facetious. Everyone knows the Pats were the better team everywhere but where it counted, on the scoreboard. Oops. my mistake. Didn't know that was a reply to a post and I didn't catch the last sentence. I still think Tebow is overated and will not like his stay in Jets hell. Quote
Quillback Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 So silly... There are 32 teams in the NFL and only about 25 QBs that belong in the NFL. T-Bow is one of a few that took his team to the play-offs and won a game. How did all those other guys do? Until Tebow met the Pats in the playoffs, Tebow stunk against a suspect Pats defence. Tebow is like the wildcat, that kind of stuff works well for about a year then teams figure it out. Tebow's passing ability is still subpar compared to real NFL QB's, if he can learn to pass in the NFL he may have a future, but if not he'll be nothing but a situational QB. We'd all like to see him succeed, but he's going to have to elevate his game to be a legit starting QB in the NFL. You think Denver would have given up on him if they thought we was for real? And not much in the way of offers for him once Denver put him on the market. Fans like him, football people don't. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 26, 2012 Super User Posted March 26, 2012 No one wants to stick there name on the quote for obvious reasons, but other Jets players are already making comments questioning the decision. Just a few stats from last season: Orton-Tebow Comparison W-L Points Comp.Pct. TD-Int Rating First 5 games (Orton) 1-4 105 .587 8-7 75.7 Last 5 games (Tebow) 1-4 79 .402 3-4 60.5 Quote
Nice_Bass Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Rhino- The statement was on his quality- luck does not make a qb a good qb. Yes he was lucky. Yes luck has its role in sports, and no luck does not sign paychecks for very long at any job. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 26, 2012 Super User Posted March 26, 2012 Luck, where preparation meets opportunity. He was lucky to have won the Heisman. He was lucky that Denver chose him as their first round draft pick. Then again, what do those who choose the Heisman Trophy winner know? Or the Denver Broncos for that matter. Based on what has been posted here, Brady is a has been. Lost the last two Super Bowls the Pats were in, against the Giants of all teams. These were games the Pats were supposed to win, hands down, according to the "experts". Unless I'm mistaken the Pats missed the playoffs at least one of the years in between their two Superbowl losses. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I believe that quote is actually an ancient roman quote which is interesting, because their luck ran out… as it always does(indeed much more history to this including over expansion and bad decisions among other things). Luck is M. Barber running out of bounds and not running the clock out for example- Good luck for Tebow, stupidity on the part of the Bears. I believe he had completed 4 passes at that point in the game, 3 in the 4th to his credit. Anyhow, NFL qb and Heisman winning qb are a bit different as history has clearly shown. He was a first draft pick...but now what again was he traded for?? I think that demonstrates his new NFL value. I don't think Brady is a has been, he runs an effective team even with a well below par D. I do think Tebow is a heck of an athlete and the drive most of us don’t have. He can be used, just not as a starting qb- he should (will) be a utility player. I would say the biggest factor of luck is this. You are unlucky If you were born a Jets fan or have ever became one. Sanchez and Tebow…I am just not buying that is something that will come close to winning a division, or wildcard. 1 Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 26, 2012 Super User Posted March 26, 2012 They missed the playoffs the year Brady was out for the season. That shows how much attention I pay to football. I am amused by the flak that Tebow is getting. I'd bet a lot of it stems from the fact that more than a few folks object to his expressions of faith. That based on the amount of ridicule I've seen in comments and articles that is directed at him. I don't know. He may be a flop, or he may develop into great quarterback. I do think the Broncos and Manning are both foolish. Manning has nothing left to prove, unless he hopes to tie his brother for Superbowl wins. He certainly doesn't need the money. It's a huge gamble for Denver, and an even bigger gamble for Manning. Denver could end up flushing that money down the drain, but Manning could flush his health and well being down the drain. Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 They missed the playoffs the year Brady was out for the season. They had no Brady for 99% of the entire season but still went 11-5, should have been plenty enough to squeak in on a wildcard spot most seasons, however they held no tie breakers and sat on the sidelines at the start of the playoffs with an 11-5 record. Zel Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 As a lifelong NY Jets fan, I like Tebow’s addition. The Jets had success with Brad Smith in the wildcat, and Tebow will add that extra depth back to their stumbling offense. Quote
