who has some experience with the fenwick elite smallmouth rods? are they any good? light? comfortable in the hand? break easy?

Posted

A lot of people have been buying those off buy.com and amazon for really cheap. I have only tried them in the store and have been very impressed with them but havent pulled the trigger on one yet. They are very light, and the new designed handle is VERY comfortable in my opinion.

I have the 6'10" M/F casting. I have had it out three times and it fishes nice. I've been using it for wacky rigged finesse worms & senkos plus some small jigs with a Curado 50 and 8 lb. fluoro. I wasn't sure about the handle at first, specifically the blank being covered by the cork, but after fishing with it a few times I like it. I'll see if I can add a pic later.

Edit. Small rod & reel makes your fish look bigger, hahaha

I have the 6'9" M-XF spinning rod and it is one of the best spinning rods I ever used and is very sensitive and light and the reel seat feels better than any other I ever used. I also have the 6'10 MH-MF casting rod, I was amazed at how light it was so I had it weighed on the local butch shop's certified scale, it came in at 3.83oz and it feels fantastic. I'm really impressed at how much feel this rod has, I use it for bigger jerkbaits and crankbaits but I could use spinnerbaits and buzzbaits no problem. I have no idea why the retail on these is onlt $129.99, don't get me wrong, I'm glad they are affordable but I honestly believe they could have sold much higher as the quality of the rod and the blank is incredible not to mention the lifetime warranty. Amazon has these on sale for different prices depending on the model, some you can't less than retail and others you can get for 80 bucks. If you have a model that you were looking at getting but weren't sure I'd tell you don't worry, just get it as they are really good rods at any price but anything less than retail is an absolute steal.

I have the 6'9" spinning model and have been extremely satisfied with it. I haven't read about or heard of anyone who isn't satisfied with these rods. I don't know specifically which rod you are looking at, but they have several different models, both casting and spinning. Amazon has great prices on some of them. Good luck with your search.

I have the 6'10 MH casting rod and the 7'4" spinning rod and absolutely love them. I also have two Techna AV's and two HMG's as well as a Elite tech bass rod (Older model.) and like them just as much.

Wait awhile and I can give some feedback as well. Received 6'9" M-XF and 6'10" M-F casting rods last week. Have to determine which reels to put on them, and then get some time on the water. I tried to look them over carefully upon receiving. Guides are all straight and the wrapping looks very good. They feel pretty light to me. Problem is I feel I need another couple Alphas ito or Curado 51E reels for these rods although I would definitely settle for putting Patriarch Xt reels on them! :)

They are pretty sweet. I ordered one off of Amazon and they unfortunately sent it in a 2-ply triangle box that turned my 1 piece rod into a 2 piece. If you end up getting it from them make sure you give it a close inspection.

I got the 6'3 spinning on amazon through reds for $85 shipped. Absolutely love the rod, the quality is very nice for that price range, and its superlight paired with my ci4. Also, if you get it through reds, they ship in a tube so you dont have to worry about getting a broken rod ;)

Is your 6'3" the MF or MHF. I've been looking at these for a while. I'm afraid the 6'9" MXF may be redundant to my 2 MH rods. I don't have a medium rod in my usual line-up

BTW, my 7'6" river runner arrived from Reds Gear just last night. I'm quite impressed and anxious to use it.

Ordered the 6'9 MXF Spinning Sunday night, pairing with Pro Qualifier 20. Anxious to use it with all the positive feedback I've read!

Loomis has quite a few models (prices) so it is difficult to make a general statement about them. However, they don't have a reputation for breaking when used properly. If you are breaking a lot of rods, it could be related to the way you use, store & transport them.

I haven't used an Elite Tech yet, but they feel nicer than my IMX model. I had the older Techna AV models and sometimes regret parting with them.

Which models of the G. Loomis rods do you own? I have 4 different models, a CR723 GLX, an MBR783C IMX, a JBR 752C Jerkbait series, and a SJR722 GL3 that I gave to my grandson after I used my Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth. I guess I should say I have 3 since I gave the rod but the way you describe Loomis rods snapping easily it makes me wonder which rods you are refering to, and if that is you own why even look at any other rods that are on the lower end of the scale? Most anglers I know with all Loomis rods don't really look at rods under $200 and that is why I'm curious to your collection.

X2

I only own one (older) G-Loonis rod, but I've got to say I don't think they would have the reputation they do have if their rods broke easy. I don't care how good the warranty is. Or how good they fish. People simply wouldn't put up with the hassle of having to replace a rod after every couple outings.

I think your luck is worse than mine. LOL. Does your girlfriend have access to your rods? Did you tick her off? I've only been reading fishing forums for about 3 years now, but I've never seen one where the guy was breaking rods like you are........regardless of the rod's manufacturer.
