ib_of_the_damned Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Just got into senko fishing, been fishing at night and cant get bit on either a senko or swimsenko. How does everyone fish them at night? Quote
ring fry Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Black with blue fleck swim senko, 3/16ths bullet weight, tail dipped in spike-it, swimming slowly or dragging on the bottom. Killer night time lure. I don't think I've thrown a regular senko at night. Quote
OIFBasser Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Black/Blue flake, Black/Red flake w/ chart tail, Junebug, wacky rigged are killers at night for me. Also T-rigged weightless and used like a jerk bait slowly work great also. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Fish the same colors, and same techniques you would during the day. People seem to think for some reason that fish somehow know it's night, so they decide to act differently. If it works in the day, it will work at night as well. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted October 5, 2009 Super User Posted October 5, 2009 Black or blue colors. The swim senko is best for a night bite. The regular senko can work in the shallows where bass go for shallow holding crayfish or sunfish. Quote
ctbassnut Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Any dark color will work at night. Black seems to be the go to color for most guys. myself inclued. Bass pick up the siluette of darker colors better at night. When fishing open water (No grass or pads) fish it wacky rigged. When fishing the slop(grass or pads) fishing texas rigged. i never use a weight when fishing senko's. The fall rate is what this bait is all about. Unless your carolina rigging it for deep water (over 15ft) never use a weight. Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 5, 2009 Super User Posted October 5, 2009 Why use a senko at night when you can use a jig? Quote
ib_of_the_damned Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Thanks for all the good info everyone! I was just curious mainly about the swimsenko and how everyone rigs them up, t rig weightless, t rig with a pegged/unpegged weight. Or I have been toying with the idea of wacky rigging a swimsenko. Thoughts? Quote
Super User 5bass Posted October 6, 2009 Super User Posted October 6, 2009 Might want to take a look at this thread too ----> http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1121527643 Quote
ib_of_the_damned Posted October 8, 2009 Author Posted October 8, 2009 I looked at all the senko and swimsenko threads and still do not understand fully. -How are you guys working the senko and the swimsenko? Are you deadsticking, lift and drop, twitching it along, popping it up, etc.? - What retrieve are you using for the swimsenko, t-rig, wacky, weightless? Thanks for all the help! Quote
bnwcrankin Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 I like to use elgrandelures mexistick's and pepper stick's at night. Both are like senko's on steroids. We've been fishing them on brushpile's at night with 1/2oz weight and 50lb braid. Bigger weight let's us get down there quick, then just reel slow until you hit brush and twich like crazy! They usually hit it on the twiches.. Usually the darker color's are the best but I think they can feel them moving too. Since we've switched to the bigger worm's we're getting alot more bites at night. They've got some 12in monster's too, haven't tried them yet but will soon. Here's a hog a caught last month fishing at night with them... Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted October 9, 2009 Super User Posted October 9, 2009 That's a very nice fish. Are you a Miami Dolphins fan. The color of your worm matches their colors. Quote
bnwcrankin Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Not a Miami fan! It's called a bluegill pepperstick. Quote
NewAngler Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I would not wacky rig the swim senko. Its made to cause vibrations on the retreive, and rigging it wacky would hold back the main feature on this bait. The tail. Quote

There's no one way that's the "best". If one technique is not working, switch it up. Try to stay focused, so that when you get a bite, you know what was happening. Was it just sittign there? Was it on the fall after you twitched it? Quote
ib_of_the_damned Posted October 14, 2009 Author Posted October 14, 2009 Thanks once again for all the tips and suggestions. What types of retrieves have worked for everyone with either the senko or swimsenko at night? Quote
Lurking Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I like to use elgrandelures mexistick's and pepper stick's at night. Both are like senko's on steroids. Here's a hog a caught last month fishing at night with them... Yup, what he said. I don't have the good fortune of being able to fish the great state of FL as often as I'd like, but in KY I've had luck using similar methods. Hookem' wacky style using o-ring (weightless), cast it out let it fall (twitch it if you like on the fall...or better yet have your wife call your cell phone, answer it and start a conversation during the initial fall, this is guaranteed to generate a strike, lol), once the lure hits bottom use the rod to move it along a few feet at a time, if you can get on top of some brush or foliage leave it for a while and twitch the heck out of it just like he said. Try to keep the Senko over underwater cover areas and experiment with the bait, slight raise/fall, twitch, jerk, etc (twitchin works best for me). I just use the normal dark colors such as green pumkin, motor oil, or black. Keep at it...you'll catch 'em! Quote
