Floating Nightcrawlers

Hi all,

I've been using a Lindy rig lately and eperimenting with the Lindy Worm Blower. It's a little plastic bottle with a needle on it that blows air into the worm to make it float up off the bottom. Problem is, some of the air escapes when I take the needle out, or I seem to inflate too much and blow up the worm. I'm having a hard time actually geting the worm to float. Anybody ever use one of these? Or does anyone have a better way to get the worm to float?

Hypodermic needle. I work in the medical field so they're easy for me to get ahold of but I know some of the walleye guys around here say they can go to their local pharmacy and pick up the small diabetes syringes/needles without needing a prescription or anything.

Some air escaping is normal, doesn't take much to make it float a little. I used to float worms for trout fishing, I would recommend not trying to put all the air in one place, and also insert the needle at an angle, put a little air in, then move the needle down a little and do it again. Worked better for me that way, good luck

I use a small guage needle from the drugstore. Get the smallest thing they carry and just put a little air in using the technique retiredbosn suggests. You can also use the needle to inflate the tail on soft plastic lures. I started using this on trout too, but when I can find the giant native crawlers in early summer, I can use them for bass as well. You sometimes get bonus fish like crappie and catfish when you use it. I'm not sure why, but native worms outscore the ones from you can buy. I have been standing right next to someone trout fishing the same water and catch them with the native worms, while they fish the same hole and get nothing with store crawlers.
