Bassfisherman94 Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 What's happening up at Smith Mountain lately? Are fish starting to spawn or are they still waiting for the water to warm up? May be heading up there next weekend. Thanks for any help! Quote
Zoff Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 I was up there Friday. I could see Largemouth but could not get a hit. Not many... one or two in the shallows. Carp by the hundreds all in 3 - 5 feet. Must be carp spawn time. As for Smallies... Good luck on a KVD 1.5 Chartreuse Black Back cranked at a fairly quick pace just at the point where the brown shore water turned green. Visibility was better than 5 feet and I only got hits on the shores where the sun was shining. If I got in the shade... nothing. Had a few Stripers on the same crank in the same places as the smallies. Quote

Zoff Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I am looking to be up on SML on Friday and Saturday... weather permitting. Quote
CODbasser Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Went saturday, best five weighed 12 lb... probably caught 25 over 14 inches... Both large and smallmouth could be found shallow in the afternoon. There were a few small largemouth already on the bed. Caught most of them skipping a gp senko, a dropshot and shakey head also caught fish. Caught one nice smallmouth on a jerkbait. This was on the roanoke side. The water temp got up to 61 in the afternoon.. hope this helps Quote
