first year fishing this early.. i have watched countless vids about spawn, with no help, i may be dumb... So my lake temp is 60 some, so if i am fishing the bank, then i want to cast along it. That lets me throw around there beds and puts me in the zone. Right?? Also how deep do bass spawn out? if i cant seem close to the shore does that mean they are not there. Should i stay away from flipping and pitchin docks and just throw a squarebill and spinnerbait along side the shore.. sorry but i still feel confused, i usally fish in summer and no matter how or what i do, i usally catch a few.

They will usually spawn in protected areas near the shoreline. How deep they spawn will depend on water clarity, might be a foot, might be 20 feet. I like soft plastics fished around cover for spawning fish but a spinnerbait or swimbait cast into likely spawning areas will find a few fish too. Docks are one of my favorite areas to fish for spawners because it seems like one of their favorite places to spawn. Fish on beds aren't always easy to catch. Don't get discouraged but pay very close attention to how fish react to certain baits and presentations. Sometimes if you find something that works on one fish it will work on most of them, sometimes you have to do something different for each fish. Pay close attention to each fish if you can see one on the bed. They'll each have their own "personality" sometimes and you'll have to do something different and push the right buttons to get a bite. Bed fishing takes a lot of practice to get good at.

This Is just an opinion and I'm truly not trying to be a smart alek but simply go fishing.

If possible cover as much water as you can , have some fun, and fish. If the fish are In pre-spawn which I know they are you'll catch some fish.

As for what to throw, throw what you have confidence In and cast, and cast, and cast.

thanks for the help, so say if the slope shoreline goes out 5 feet then drops to like 8 feet and is close to cover then may be a good chance. ok let me ask this, will they bed shallow, even if it isn't close to the bank. There is a cove were i fish, i see bass fisherman in boats(sure they have electronics to help) pull up to entrance of cove and just cover it from side to side. My opnion is that this is a shallow cove and the are spawning every were in it(not just next to the shore but as long as it is shallow everywere,... Geezz I hope that made since.

If I were you I would head to the Wittenburg access. There are miles and miles of shoreline you can cover with plenty of points, coves, and flats, and most have deep water nearby.

I don't have a boat either so I go wading around in the coves. It definitely helps get your lures out farther and cover a lot more water.

It really depends but you can't go wrong with a jig or plastic worm.

If you are walking the shore and looking for beds, then you need to;

have good polarized sunglasses, a wide brim dark color hat to shade your eyes and keep the sun to your back. You are looking for beds with bass near them; beds are usually a lighter color then the bottom and anywhere from 1 foot to 3 feet in size and located near something that protects the bed from wind. If you see a bass swim off, wait until it returns, this happens a lot with spawners.

A Texas or drop shot rigged soft plastic worm, creature bait or Senko in a color that you can see easily; white for example. If you don't see any beds sites with bass nearby, then keep walking until you find them. No beds then start fan casting the Texas rigged worm in whatever color you prefer and fish the area.

When pond fishing or walking banks on your local lake treat it like deer hunting stealth is good shadows, rocks falling all that suff will spooke a fish .
