-HAWK- Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 what's so good about them? why should I buy it? They are a versatile bait. Many people use them like a buzzbait and run them on top. The tail makes a wake similar to a buzzbait prop. But they can also be pitched into pockets and under docks much easier because they are weedless. They are worth a try. Quote
EasternPAfisherman Posted October 10, 2009 Author Posted October 10, 2009 ok, I'll have to try them Quote
D4u2s0t Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 They throw more water than many buzzbaits that are out there. Seems like a solid all around bait. I have never caught a fish on them yet, but to be fair I haven't caught a fish on ANY topwater this year. But I am still impressed with the action. I'm a new big time rage fan. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 10, 2009 Super User Posted October 10, 2009 Fantastic lure/bait, especially over heavy cover. Proper rigging is VERY important: http://www.ragetail.com/ragetailshad.html 8-) Quote

Shimmer Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Honestly, I've tried this bait about 20+ times and never had even a dink hit them. Everyone on here raves the Rage Tail name but personally they are the only baits in my tacklebox that I have NEVER caught anything on. Not sure if the Illinois bass just don't like them or what, but I know alot of people swear by them so hopefully they will work well for you! Edit before someone says z0mgz you dont have them rigged right! Yes, I do. Quote

Edit before someone says z0mgz you dont have them rigged right! Yes, I do. I assure you IL bass love them. I nice 5 pound Crab Orchard bass. The key for this bait is cover(grass) and off colored water . Most of the time it has to much commotion for clear water bass. I might also suggest the frog version. It usualy runs better with less snags and still puts out tons of noise. Quote
Deputy Dave Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I can't seem to catch a thing on them either. It's not that I haven 't tried. I'm throwing mine in central Indiana. I too have mine rigged correctly! I really want this bait to work for me. I watched that Strike King sponsored show (I can't remember who was fishing with Mark Davis in that episode) that has been talked about here several times where they absolutely tore them up that day and it fires me up big time each time I've seen it! The next time I hit the water I'm throwing every color that I have for the first couple hours on the water and can't catch a cold on the things. I can tie on a Cavitron and do pretty well most days. I'm gonna keep trying them. Like I said, I really want this bait to work for me!!! Quote
EasternPAfisherman Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 thanks for the tips, let's hope these pennsylvania bass like em Quote
Mrs. Matstone Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 I am from Pa as well and the Pa bass love the shad. I love this bait. I have caught many bass on the shad in all different colors. I love to fish them in grassy areas as well like simp. I still fish them in clear water and I change the presentation a bit. I do not burn them. Usually when fishing the shad in clearer water I slow things down a bit and give it very short pops and longer pauses. Aside from changing the retrieval speed of the bait you can also change the angle of your rod tip and get different action out of the bait. I like the 10 and 2oclock positon best myself, it really throws alot of water. This bait does work well. I always have one rigged on one of my poles and it is my go to bait for sure. I think it is also good for night fishing as well. I tried my first shot at night fishing this year, I chose the shad and got a nice one the first few casts. Good luck to you. Quote
Banor Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Just tried this bait for the first time a couple weeks ago. I must say the action is pretty nice. I failed to get any blow ups on it or even followers but I am going to keep it in the line up and put it to good use. Definately has potential. I'm a big fan of the Rage Tail line and this one will stay on the list. B Quote
