SoCalFisher Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I am just wondering what you guys like to use as backing for braid. Quote
RushFan2112 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Cheapest mono I can find is what I use. Quote
0119 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Nothing. straight braid and dont bother with backing anymore. Youtube The Spanish Fly's channel and see how he spools up a spinner, very easy and it works. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I actually got a 1lb spool of 12# yo zuri hybrid really cheap last year and that's what I use. I like it cause if for some reason I get a nasty backlash On the bait caster or a knarly tangle on my spinning gear I can just strip the line down to the yozuri and keep on using the rod and reel with confidence. CKFishin Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I am just wondering what you guys like to use as backing for braid. Any mono I can find laying around... Nothing. straight braid and dont bother with backing anymore. Youtube The Spanish Fly's channel and see how he spools up a spinner, very easy and it works. I guess you have money to burn... 200 yards of braid can do 3 reels depeding same goes for Flouro... Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 15, 2012 Super User Posted March 15, 2012 You can use anything for backing. The braid I use is about 80 yards or so, 4 "new" line changes per spool. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 15, 2012 Super User Posted March 15, 2012 I am now tieing my braid to the holes in the spool. Quote
0119 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I dont know...... Yeah spend $200+ on a reel. Near $200 on its rod. $10 for INOX or Corrosion X to maintain them. Whats another $15 for a 125yard of braid? Quote

Super User grimlin Posted March 15, 2012 Super User Posted March 15, 2012 Nothing. straight braid and dont bother with backing anymore. Youtube The Spanish Fly's channel and see how he spools up a spinner, very easy and it works. I've done something similar to that, tied a uni knot to spool, then wrap it with electric tape. It does work. Quote
NebraskaBasser Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I usually put the purchase-date on my line. When it gets "old", and I no longer want to use it as "fresh" line on my reels, those spools go into a separate bag/box. I use THAT "OLD" LINE to practice knot-tying and to use as backing on reels. (I usually use this "old" mono as backing vs. just tossing it in the trash.) Bob Quote
