Super User roadwarrior Posted March 14, 2012 Super User Posted March 14, 2012 I am hoping some of you that are killin' 'em with an Alabama Rig are willing to share your rigging. I have been experimenting with all kinds of stuff, but have decided to go light tackle only. The heavy rigs just wore me out! So, here are a couple of mine: Outside arms: LFT Live Magic Shad on light wire #3 Offset Worm Hooks Inside arm: Johnson Silver Minnow, Keitech Swing Impact Fat, larger LFT Live Magic Shad, Hollow Belly or Shadalicious. I may try a 6" flutter spoon again, but lost that rig on the first cast! Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I just broke down and bought a version of the rig. Glad you ask this question. I bought it mainly for the road trip. Anyway. What I've seen around here is guys mostly using flukes or grubs. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I use a The 3" D.O.A C.A.L shad tail. Pearl w/ chartreuse on 1/16 oz academy jig heads. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted March 14, 2012 Super User Posted March 14, 2012 salt/pepper tubes is what I gave to a friend of mine and he say's they are working pretty good, cheap option I know but hey if it's working for him it may for you. Good luck !!! Quote
zip pow Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Swimming jr fluke in pearl with 1/8 jigheads like the lite wire hooks mainly because you can get your rigs i use texas riged skinny dippers with belly weighted hooks in grass still the 1/8 oz i use the 3" sassy shad with 1/4 oz jighead for my deeper fishing. Im going to try speedworms this weekend in pearl color just to givem a different look. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted March 14, 2012 Super User Posted March 14, 2012 I'm sticking with Swimming Fluke Junior on 1/8 ounce heads, usually three on the lower three then two #5.5 willow blades on top. Total weight under 2 ounces. Quote
Bryce C Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Big Hammer swimbaits! x2 These are the best I've used so far. Very durable and they just plain swim the best of any other solid body swimbaits that I've fished. Even at a crawl the body stays in line and the tails kick very well. You can't beat the price either. 3" and 4" are what I have been using all on 1/8 oz J will heads. So far so good, but I can't say that I have been killing them on it, good days and bad. Quote
mr.mallard Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 kent, i have a couple older strike king timber spin in Chartreuse that you're welcome to have one for the middle arm of your rig. like a johnson minnow, but more flash and vibration. havent tried it, dont throw the rig, but i think it would work very well Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 15, 2012 Author Super User Posted March 15, 2012 Thanks! I'll take you up on that. I looks like I'm staying in town this weekend. I plan to fish Collierville Saturday morning and have invited all the locals to join me. I will be at Perkins around 5:30 if you want to hook up. -Kent Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I found a trick for getting the rig out of bad snags. Probably not a trick for all, but I was happily suprised! I used to use an 18' extension pole lure retriever. This thing works great for crankbaits. But, it would only push the head of the rig, none of the wires. So, i started using the old heavy hounddog attached to a long line(dog leash or twine on an old ambassador). The weight of the hound dog plus the big hoops in the middle allow it to slide down over the head of the rig and takes the wires back down to center. You come back up with all 3 bait (Tennessee) hooks hanging onto the dog retriever. Quote
mr.mallard Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 ill be out of town for an arkansas resivior for this weekend, but will give one to jeff with your name on it next time i see him. and cville was good one day after work this week c-rigging elaztech worms over the emerging grass. light tackle, 4 inch watermelon Quote
Bass Dude Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 We've been doing really good using the Storm Wild Eye Shiner. Either 3 or 4 inch size. We seem to have better luck using three (in Tennessee) of the same lures on one rig, instead of using different lures. Quote
