In a nutshell...which would you opt for? I have 3 E series reels in the 200 size, and love 'em. I have a Curado 200D that I think is big and bulky but too mechanically solid to part with (plus its a 5:1 so it's my cranking reel.) Also have 2 Citica 100D's that are a very comfortable size for me. Many feel adamantly that the D series was Shimano's best-engineered Curado. What say y'all?

Eagerly awaiting responses from the other Shimano loyalists. I expect RW to chime in here.

Should also mention the 50E is new, Curado D is lightly used. Price is similar enough to be a non-factor.

Reel would see action for everything "baitcasting" except heavy cover flipping and deep cranking.

I sold my 101D after I bought a 51E, and I now have two 51E's. Take that how ever you want. I still have two 201D's a Citica, and Curado DPV, the DPV is not going any where, at least not till I can find a smoking deal on a Chronarch 201E5. I could give up the Citica D for an E (or even a new G) and not lose any sleep over it.

Out of the two, a 50E. The Curado D series are large, heavy, and fairly bulky. That being said, I have several D series Curados and love them. Absolute workhorse of a reel. Mine have gone through hell and back and just keep on ticking. To 50E fits fantastically in the hand. It all will come down to personal preference in the long run.

I have the 51E, never tried any of the D line but from what is obvious of the weight savings/bulky ness between the lines you go with the 50E

Don't care what anybody says...the D series reels were better reels than the E series will ever dream of.

D series reels just seem like a solid build reel. People complain of them being heavy.....I call them people.....ahhh nevermind...*whistles*...

The G series reels are a joke....pretty much a big step backwards....

Of course this is all my opinions and really shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Personally I like the 100Ds over 200Es, not sure about the 50's-I say go with whatever feels more comfortable in your hands, or if your not strictly a shimano guy the Pflueger narrow spool reels are similar in profile to the 100D series and the Patriarch even has a 7to1 gear ratio.

I've got 5 101 D's and 3 51 E's. (and 3 200 E7's) Wouldn't trade any of them.

The 51 E's I use for lighter baits in our CFL ponds and light topwaters.

Go with what feels good and you can afford outright.
