BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 13, 2012 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 13, 2012 Remember Coolio? I'll give you s second. Yep, THAT guy. He was arrested in Vegas last week. What did he do? It's more about what he DIDN'T do, namely show up in court to address a bunch of minor traffic violations from 2 years ago. He was taken to, and has since posted bail from, the Clark County Detention City. Oddly enough, the Clark County Detention Center is the same facility where Coolio's son is CURRENTLY being held. He was arrested last November for armed robbery and a few other choice felonies. Like father, like son... not the crimes, but the lock- up. Meanwhile, Oprah Winfrey's (desperate for people to watch her network) interview with Whiney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina aired last night, and to the shock of exactly ZERO people, BK announced that she, like her mother, wanted to pursue a career in showbiz. Why not? Her whacked- out mother and whacked- out father adjusted SO well to the spotlight. In addition to her ill- advised pursuit of the limelight, BK also plans to change her name to Kristina Houston. She feels that both 'Bobbi' and 'Brown' have negative connotations... unlike 'Whitney Houston'. (???) Oh, and she may or may not go into rehab to combat her own drug addictions. Allegedly, one of the mother/ daughter moments they shared was doing drugs together. Ahhhhhh family! Coolio and Bobbi Kristina inspired today's question: WHAT BAD TRAIT OR HABIT DID YOU PICK UP FROM YOUR PARENTS? I'd like to extend my gratitude to my father for my male pattern baldness and bulging gut. Awesome! Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 Buying new vehicles. Parents like every 2-3 years would buy a new car, truck. Been married 14 years might be getting vehicle #5 so holding to that tradition at around 3 years avg. Habit Id like to break though. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 My aptitude for beating the hell out of someone every time I'm in a bar. Wether I'm drinking (rarely) or not (the majority). I've seriously been in more bar fights since I quit getting loaded then when I was drunk. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 Fishing..........I'm not sure if that's in the bad category depends who ya ask my mom or wife chalk it up bad me or the old man that's a good one. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 I'm going to try my level best to NOT follow the family tradition. Both Grandfather & Father developed bladder cancer (both age 60) and later died due to blood clots (both age 62). Here's a guy that is fully tuned in to both issues along with my doctor. The fact that the men in our family have had nothing to do with social security going bankrupt scares the hell out of me! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 That's simple. My father was a pack rat. He never threw anything away. He had jars and cans of nuts, bolts, screws, nails, you name it cluttering every square inch of shelf, tabletop, etc. I was the same way. If it was something I might remotely, improbably need in the future, I'd keep it. No matter that it would take an hour or two to find the right size fastener that I could get for a few cents at the hardware store a couple of miles away, and sometimes eventually surrendering and pick up the piece at the hardware store, I had stashes of stuff. Took a while but every once in a while I look at my eternal rat nests of stuff, and if I haven't needed any of it, it gets tossed in the dumpster. I no longer have an attachement to the rubble. Clearing it out made room for the damaged plastic baits I intend to restore with super glue, spools of line with only a few coils that I might want to use for leader material, nearly empty bottles of fish scent. I've even managed to toss some of that stuff in the trash. Guess you can chalk me up as a recovering collectaholic. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 Bad trait is easy, migraines. Bad habit, not easy for me to leave my comfort zone and try new things. There are a few things in life I want to try or see. But always seem to talk myself out of them due to whatever excuse come into my head. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 My mistake mouth and temper. I get that from both my parents. I have more good traits I got from my dad. I can fix basic stuff like small things on my car and house. I can weld most metals. I am not afraid to learn new things. I swear I learned more from my old man in 6 short years, Then I have in the whole 26 years I have been alive. Ok why is bad before mouth on my post changed to mistake. Quote
jeremyt Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Lack of patience, my dad had no patience with much of anything when I was growing up. I always said to myself that I would show my kids patience, but its a lot harder than I thought. Quote
GrundleLove Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Nothing. I live my life in the complete OPPOSITE of my parents... Oh god....i have issues Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 Baldness from my dad, shortness from my mom, gut from my dad....and the list goes on. But on the positive side they both like fishing!!! Jeff Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 Smoking. Quit over a year ago, though. Quote
plumworm Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 According to my wife, fishing and hunting. For the first 38 years being married, I fished and hunted way too much. Now after 4 years of retirement, she tells me to get out of the house and go fishing Who'd a thunk. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 Smoking. Quit over a year ago, though. X2 Haven't quit yet, but I've cut back drastically. Hoping to be done with it completely this year. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Sweets. My dad had to have some type of baked goods around the house or in his lunch. My mom, bless her heart is a really good cook and bakes some of the best stuff. I'm not diabetic but my penchant for that sweet stuff has me on a constant sugar buzz. My youngest granddaughter has the curse now. " Papa...I want caneeeeeeee." Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Bad habit earlier in life was smoking. Now I've moved on to sweets As far as bad traits the fact that my hairline is in full retreat of my face comes from my mother side. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 X2 Haven't quit yet, but I've cut back drastically. Hoping to be done with it completely this year. Good, now get it over with. Three days and nights of white knuckles and homicidal rage, but I promise it goes away. Beer and Ben & Jerry's got me through it. I still get crazy cravings, but I know they will subside in about 90 seconds. That's a big thing for anyone that is quitting - the craving subsides, and they get fewer and farther between. But yeah, smoking was big in my family. You couldn't "graduate" to the grown up table on Thanksgiving until you smoked, LOL. Now, most everyone has quit. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 Fishing is one I got from my dad but there's a few others I got and droped already an a few I hope to never get. Droped: Smoking(2 packs a day) Drinking(30pack a day and then some shots or just straight to the hard stuff like a handle of vodka or whiskey every night) My temper Iv quit them habits thank god cuz that second one probably would have killed me or some one else when tied with the third. I recognized my problem early and stoped when I joined the army kinda didn't have a choice but to quit cold turkey on the first 2 and the 3rd is still hard to keep under control no matter how much ya woo-saa. Then there's the ones I some how have not gotten. I am the ONLY person in my family that doesn't have diabetes my parents do my sisters do all my cousins aunts uncles all of em have it and had it by 20 im 25 and have lucked out. My moms side is also ridden with obesity I have come close but not there yet an starting my swing towards my dads side where they are all skinny tall bean poles. My dad had his first heart attack when he was 32 and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure at 40 he's now 50 but had had 6 heart attacks an is still kicking with one leg diabetes took his other last June. My gpa on dads side also died of CHF in his mid 50s. My moms side is also ridden with breast cancer my mom an older sister both had it and beat it along with 7 aunts on that side. Both uncles on moms side had leukemia and beat that as well. So as u see medically odds arnt in my favor but so far iv beat the odds and hope to continue to there all traits I don't want I'll stick with my dads love of the outdoors and baby blue eyes women love. They can have the rest I don't want them. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 I didn't pick up any bad habits from my folks. smokin, drinkin, cussin and fightin don't really count, do they? Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 14, 2012 Super User Posted March 14, 2012 My gut, every one on my fathers side, man or women has it, my sister did too before she died. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted March 14, 2012 Super User Posted March 14, 2012 Interesting question Glenn. I like the new "Today's question" feature. I definately received some bad tendencies as far as health goes from my pop. I smoked for years before finally giving them up. It took pop a long time to quit. I remember when he told my mom that as soon as cigarettes hit a quarter a pack he was giving them up; they were way more than that before he finally had enough. He also liked to drink more than was healthy, and I had to deal with that demon along the way. He had heart issues that I also share. He was good man that always wanted to do the right thing, even if he didn't quite get it right every time. I received my curiosity, charm , and love of food from my mom. Food was always a way of expressing love for her, and I struggle with that today. I expect that will be the case till they throw dirt on top of me. I have come to terms with the fact that my parents did the best they could. They made a lot of mistakes, and I have a couple of siblings who blame all their problems on them. As intelligent adults we are responsible for our own actions. We all have demons. Maturity is when we can look them in the eye and say, "I'm in charge here." 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 14, 2012 Super User Posted March 14, 2012 I didn't realize how much I idolized my father until he passed away. He had some bad habits and so do I, I focus on the positive, not the negative. My dad and I spend a lot time together fishing, that's when he prepped me for life and was he ever right, at the time I thought he was nuts. The most important thing I learned, looking for excuses is a road to failure, achievers do something about a bad situation and then succeed. He was a child of the Great Depression, that says it all, compared to him I had it easy. Quote
endless Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Ugliness lol? But no really drinking right and now a little over 3 months sober. Other than that not sure maybe high school drop out just like my father to go to work. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted March 15, 2012 Super User Posted March 15, 2012 The two worst habits I've inherited from my parents are drinking and smoking. I'm sixty-five and haven't kicked either habit. The one worst habit I didn't inherit was by father's bigotry. He was a hater, and there were many times when I hated him for it. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted March 16, 2012 Super User Posted March 16, 2012 Swearing like a sailor. My dad said all those words around me when I was little, and I just grew up with it. Quote
