I do ice first. I actually prefer flat soda over carbonated soda, it burns my throat...

My wife is the same way. She cracks the top on her coke bottles in the fridge so as to let the carbonation out. She says they taste better that way. I always thought she was the only one to like flat soda.

Coke was at its best decades ago when it came in the refillable, thick, glass, deposit bottles. A soda that had been kept in the fridge was kept cold by the thick glass. On the bottom of the bottle was the city and state where the bottle was first filled. Eventually Coke bottles got distributed around the country. My buddies and I had a standing deal. The person with the city on the bottom that was furthest away got his Coke paid for by the other(s). Cokes were a nickel back then.

Get your Coke from the International aisle in the grocery. You're looking for it to be made in Mexico. It has real sugar, comes in glass bottles, and tastes like the Coke from my childhood.

Home Depot of all places sells it by the flat. Awesome stuff.

So, I'm interested to understand why are so many of you have given' up soda's?

I think your doing a good thing for your body, but what prompted you to make the change???

Cheers, Eric

I turned 30 last year. My family has a history of weight and heart related problems. I'm just doing what little things I can do to make sure I'm around for a long time to watch my daughters grow up. Plus, it's just a quality of life thing. I want to make sure that I'm able to enjoy everything I want as I get older. I'll never stop drinking soda, but if cutting back will help me lose a few pounds, it sure as hell doesn't hurt any.

I don't always drink soda, but when I do I hold the ice.

I don't drink soda due to fact it doesn't hydrate you in the way water, gatorade, or electrolytes drinks do. I'm an active person and I've noticed soda tends to make me drag my arse around compare to drinking water or gatorade most of the day. I still drink it when I go out to eat sometimes, but I don't buy it for my fridge. I don't drink coffee, so I'll get a soda out of a machine or get black tea for my source caffeine if I really need it.

Root beer is in a class of it's own it's so good it's the only pop I drink if given a choice then pepsi after that and coke is at the bottom of the list. Iv used coke to loosen rusty nuts and bolts and people drink that heck no I ain't. In sure pepsi would eat rust to but I heard coke does and I tried it with success. Just imagine what it does inside of you

Coca Cola was originally marketed as a patent medicine, and yes it did have some cocaine in it.

Way to take it out of context! ;) When I do drink soda it's either root beer, cherry coke, or mellow yellow.

The acid in your stomach is far more potent than Coke.

According to the Mayo clinic, drinking Coke is the recommended regime for treating rusty stomachs.

I try not to have soda at home, if I don't bring it into the house I can't drink it. I opt for room temp filtered water at home, or bottled water on the boat. If I hit a fast food drive through I'll go for a Dr. Pepper if they have it. Ya, I'm a pepper :respect-059:

But, when it comes to the occasional beer, I go for the old fashion dark, smooth, creamy, full body beers from western Europe. With a few exceptions, I think the US has forgotten how to make a good beer. If you can read a news paper through it, it's not a beer. IMHO ;)

Cheers, Eric (that's an old Commo sign off, not a pub toast)

P.S. I don't use ice....

One of the things I love most about my other "hobby" is the coke in the old bottles, I will toss my new "no pop" rule aside for that.

We have something like it at home but I'm headed to Kuwait for a year I'll be living off cases of bottled water.

I'm pretty close, now that I gave up pop. The big 35 pack is almost gone, and I bought it Saturday. I like it room temp if I'm guzzling it. Cold is OK for sipping or at dinner.

This is true but guzzling it does nothing to rehydrated you you just end up ticking it out 20 minutes later. I chug it all the time though even though I know I shouldent

I eat a little less if I guzzle some water, but yeah I know about hydrating.
