Let's talk about the right way to put soda/pop/tonic and ice together in a glass. Most folks do it wrong. They put ice in the glass and pour the soda over it. This creates way too much foam and causes the drink to lose some of its snap.

You should always put the liquid in the glass first, leaving enough room to add the amount of ice you'd like. It will foam less, is way less likely to cause the foam to overrun the top of the glass/tumbler. And the beverage retains more of its carbonation.

I expect to be mocked by the beer, adult beverage consumers. But that's all right. I can handle it.

I keep a 12 pack of Pepsi in the fridge at all times. Pepsi first, then ice, if I actually remember to do it. When you pour a cold can of soda over ice, it foams up far more than normal.

Now that's what I'm talking about. The voice of experience.

I've noticed that as well. I generally only do it with cans and bottles being transfered to a glass. Makes too big of a mess when doing it at a soda fountain.

Now for the mockery. Guiness is supposed to have a head and does not require ice. Same with Bodingtons and Murphy's. Grab your pint and pound it down.

I just don't use ice period let alone drink pop(yeah it's pop I'm from WNY) but occasionally I will like when at the Inlaws because that's all they ever have and then it's right from the can warm as well no ice in anything.

I can honestly say that I have not had a single soft drink since October. I'm so proud of myself.

I agree, soda then ice cubes (not crushed) As far as beer goes - 1. layer of ice cubes, 2. layer of beer bottles, 3. repeat items 1 and 2 until the cooler is full. ;)

I don't drink pop anymore either. Early december for me, lost 10 lbs just by cutting it out and not doing anything else.

I am going on my 4th week without soda. Don't even miss it too much. I have lost some weight too, but I also started a workout/nutrition plan.

I've cut back a lot on my soda habit. Love the stuff, but I've realized that I need to start cutting back on some of the junk I've been putting in me. Already dropped quite a few pounds this year just by cutting down on some stuff. Soda being my major vice.

Man it's bad for you, but d**n is it ever good.......

You can get away with doing it backwards with Pepsi much easier than Coke. Coke poured over ice comes out super flat, and the foam is way more than Pepsi.

No more POP on a regular basis for me too. My dad's a diabetic and I'm not gonna push it.

I haven't drank it in so long that when I try one every once in awhile, it tastes too sweet to me and I usually end up pouring the second half out.

I've cut back significantly on commercially available sodas, but I got my mom one of those sodastream machines for christmas and since then and I've been making my own pop by carbonating water and adding different kinds of fruit juice.

Like many here I don't drink much soda any more, but when I do I want Coke (no Pepsi please) ice cold with no ice in it. That is the only proper way in my humble opinion. :fencing2:

So, I'm interested to understand why are so many of you have given' up soda's?

I think your doing a good thing for your body, but what prompted you to make the change???

Diabetes made me give up pop and I don't miss it at all. My adult beverages are consumed neat or on the rocks, never with a mix. I only drink low carb beer now and it really isn't too often.

Old bartender's trick. Ice first, then pop or mix, shot on top.

First sip means a good tip.

Coke was at its best decades ago when it came in the refillable, thick, glass, deposit bottles. A soda that had been kept in the fridge was kept cold by the thick glass.

On the bottom of the bottle was the city and state where the bottle was first filled. Eventually Coke bottles got distributed around the country. My buddies and I had a standing deal. The person with the city on the bottom that was furthest away got his Coke paid for by the other(s). Cokes were a nickel back then.

Two cents.

Back in the day eyeglasses that had really thick lenses were referred to as coke bottle bottoms, or something like that.

Kick start my memory Tom, weren't those cokes only 8 oz bottles? I remember them being much smaller than today's two liter single serving.

Yup and a pack of smokes were 5 cents. 10 cents, gotcha into the movies all day long. Which was when you could bring a lunch to the movies too. And the greatest toys in the world were; a soapbox mounted to a 2x4 with a roller skate attached to the bottom. And the all time best a hoop and a stick.

I don't remeber those days. My Grandad does though.

Six ounces. Pepsi bottles were 12 ounces. One of their jingles was "Twice the drink for the same price". How 'bout Royal Crown Cola and Nehi? What amazes me is that Moxie has survived.

Ever taste that stuff? It will make your eyeballs pucker.

I do ice first. I actually prefer flat soda over carbonated soda, it burns my throat...
