Free Trokar Hooks!

I bet it did cost them but I think it was a pretty good move on their part. Really... does it cost 1 dollar to make a hook? Of course not. Probably cost them a dollar or so for every pack of hooks they sent out for free.

For sake of argument... say it was 10,000 packs sent out. OK... $10,000 initial investment.

(Don't have a calculator available so this is all done in my head so bear with me if I make a mistake)

Say only a third of the people receiving these hooks begin to buy Trokar and buy one pack to try them again. Trokar profits $3.00 per pack. So... you are back to almost your initial investment with $9,900.00.

These same 1/3rd will buy more (Really...how many times do you just buy one pack of hooks?) and say it is just 3 more packs. We are at 9900 packs at $3.00 profit for a total of $29,700.00

Now... there is a return on the investment by Trokar. This will compound based on word of mouth.

Add that to say... they average only one person by word of mouth that buys 1 pack based on their recommendation... add another $9,900.00.

Total profit = $39,500.00.

Even if you factor in two packs per person sent... still a profit of almost 29 grand. Since Trokar is owned by one of the biggest fishing manufacturers in the world, Eagle Claw, there is nothing lost here by them. More than likely it was 100,000 people who responded so profit would be more like a quarter million bucks.

I do not know how many packs of hooks they sent out or what their profit margin is but you can bet... they though this out. Anyway... it's probably from the advertising budget and any loss is tax deductible.

The way I look at it, it only took me 2 minutes to do the survey and maybe 5 minutes for the quiz. Whatever free stuff they send me will be put to good work. If they don't send me anything then I haven't really lost anything.

Just got one pack of hooks for doing the survey today. Still waiting on the pack for doing the quiz. I got the 2/0 EWG 6 pack. At wally world here they run about $7 so no complaints. Plus, they look bigger than my 3/0 hooks that I usually use made by Gamakatsu. It took around 3 weeks, they were free, and I didn't have to pay shipping. You can't beat that. Now if I can just get Strike King to send me a free pack of Rage Tail (anything but the Thumper, Anaconda, or Smokin' Rooster).

I don't know why you guys are getting them so late. I got mine within one week. I live in Georgia and they are in Colorado.

I blame it on the postal service. For the last 2 months or so, I've been getting bills and notices after the due date. Thankfully my wife keeps up with them. If it was just one bill from one place then I'd say it's the company, but it's 3-4 different bills/notices from different places. Another weird thing is that if I get mail from out of state it takes less time than in the same city or state. For some reason they run in city/state mail all the way down to Atlanta and then back up to Rome.

As stated before, it's not like I paid money for the hooks or shipping. Which begs the question as to how they are even making money at all if they are giving away that many hooks.

Now if I can just get to feeling better. I'm on the last 3 days of my meds and they are having a worse effect on me now than when I fist started. I have pretty much been sleeping all day today, but my waking hours have been very painful. It's like rolling the dice to see which joints the antibiotics will screw with each hour because it's never the same places all the time.

I kinda got off topic, but because of the meds I can't remember when or if I said anything about being sick in other posts. I'm sure by now that I seem like a whiner. I'm just not used to going this long without at least fishing for an hour or 2. My fishing buddy knocked on the door this evening and I didn't even bother answering it. First, I've already explained to him what's going on 3 times. And second, if I had answered I probably would have went fishing and make matters worse for me.

I got 1 pack of 1/0 ewg hooks the first time. I got a second package a couple of days ago with a pack of 5/0 monster ewg hooks. The two opposite end of the spectrum lol. I also got a sticker with the 5/0's

I would really like the sticker. I heard people say they did the survey and quiz, yet on there website I have only seen the quiz. No survey.
