Super User Bassn Blvd Posted March 12, 2012 Super User Posted March 12, 2012 The wife does but I don't. I have a higher expectation of Italian food. The only thing I like at OD is the salad. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 12, 2012 Super User Posted March 12, 2012 Guess the woman who did that review really liked the place. Personally, I'd prefer to eat elsewhere for Italian food. Plenty of much better, smaller places around here for me to enjoy. Last time I was at an Olive Garden, I blew the CV joints in my old Mazda. Haven't gone back to one since. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted March 12, 2012 Super User Posted March 12, 2012 Sweet old gal. I could go for some pasta and bread sticks... Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted March 12, 2012 Super User Posted March 12, 2012 Mmmmmmm breadsticks 2 Quote
jeremyt Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I am not a big fan, they opened one here in Jacksonville a few years back. You had to have a reservation 2 weeks out. If you tried to wait it out you could be there for 4+ hours. People were crazy. Just not worth it to me. Not that the food is horrible but just not worth the trouble. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted March 12, 2012 Super User Posted March 12, 2012 I'd been waiting to read that. You know its a small town when the olive garden is big news. Ol' woman did a good review of it. Wish the ones in Birmingham were as nice as she makes that one sound. Quote
GrundleLove Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I am 100% certain that their breadstix are not made with bread...some where synthetic material..they are so spongy i literally know of no other bread in existence that has that consistency. Quote

Super User Lund Explorer Posted March 12, 2012 Super User Posted March 12, 2012 Having had the luck to live in Marilyn's hometown for over three years, I can honestly say I wasn't surprised at her write up. The old saying up there back in those days was that Grand Forks was not the end of the world, you could just see it from there. I found it refreshing to see that she took what she found and reported it as such. I am only left to wonder if she sees any humor when she reads reports of snow storms written by someone hillbilly in the southern part of the country, or the news about a rare day of fresh air in some of the more, shall we say, urban parts of our country. One of the national news organizations had shown her article a few days ago. It also said that she was traveling to NYC soon and would be filing a story on the restaurants she would be visiting. I hope they are ready for her! Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 When I was not on the farm as a kid, I was in old fashioned mom and pop Italian and Greek resturants. The Olive Garden might as well be IHOP to me.......actually I like IHOP better LOL. Quote
scrutch Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 It's one of my wife's favorite restaurants. The one by us is pretty good. I've been to some in other cities that made be belch for hours. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 Haven't been to one in 12 years....lol... Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 Didn't someone find a foreign ingredient in their Alfredo sauce a few years back, or is that just Urban Legend? Regardless, that lady in the review absolutely loved it like it was a 5-star restaurant. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 Olive Garden is palletable, but it isn't Italian, it's Italian style. There are few if any northern Italian dishes served and O.G. has no idea of what a quality fillet marinated in " zip sauce" is. For a great Italian meal, quality ingredients and top notch chefs make the difference. Haven't had an outstanding Italian meal since I left Detroit, it's non existent in South Florida regardless of the price of the meal. Quote
Sfritr Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 In my opinion, saying OG has good Italian is like saying McDonalds is a good quality hamburger. You go there cause its convenient, not because your craving great Italian food. Quote

I agree that the food isn't all that great, but in such a small market anything can turn out to be great shakes. Quote
GrundleLove Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 They are like pretzel breadsticks. YES. That's it. Its the same consistency of a soft pretzel. MIND. BLOWN. Quote
SmokeRise1 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I've never even seen an Olive Garden restaurant. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I havent had OG in 2.5 yrs. Last time I did was the first date with my gal. It was as bad as I remembered. We ended up going to Buffalo Wild Wings. LOL Quote

It's about a genuine as you can get. Cadillacs outnumber normal civilian cars 10:1 in the parking lot. They all know what "gabba-goll" is. Quote

Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 14, 2012 Super User Posted March 14, 2012 Olive Garden is the McDonalds of Italian food. I'ts kind of like calling Taco Bell Mexican food. Quote
