I was wondering if anyone out there ever caught any fish (and if so, how big) on any of the classic "gimmick" lures.  Some "gimmick" lures that come to mind are the (famous) helicopter lure, flying lure, moto lures (now made by Chuck Woolery), and the banjo minnow.  Don't ask, but I actually own all of the aforementioned (all were gifts).  The flying lure actually worked well for me.  I remember catching an 18" LM bass on my first cast with it and thinking I found the greatest lure ever.  Anyone else had success with a "gimmick" lure or knows of another "gimmick" lure I haven't mentioned and caught fish on, please post it here.

7-8 lb northern pike on the banjo and about a 6 on the flying  lure. as far as bass, only like 3 pounders on both, but that was in colorado, not a ton of big fish there!

I caught a 4 something on Lake of the Ozarks off my buddies dock on a flying lure when they first came out.  That was my PB for a few years. ;D   I actually just ran across an un-opened box in the garage today ;D ;D

I won $5000.00 with a perch colored banjo minnie on a 1/8 jig in a walleye tournament. Yes I order a bunch from the company and don't think of them as a gimmick.

What made them a gimmick is you couldn't buy just a bag of plastic.

I don't see the banjo as a gimmick.  That thing catches fish.  The set backs that make it  "gimmicky" are the fact that you can only buy the hooks and plastic from one place, and it was introduced to us via an info-mercial.

But that thing catches fish, I don't care who you are.

Oh yea,..the hooks that come with it suck, way too light and weak.

I caught a 7 pounder on one of my friend's "blinking red light lure." it was the topwater plug, looks and runs just like a zara spook. It was blue/purple/green but translucent with a wierd little device in the center that put out a blinking red light that was suppose to simulate an injured bleeding baitfish. He's still never caught a fish on it.
