Standard practice says to look around the Northern shorelines for bass that are spawning. This year the predominate wind directions have been out of the South and I was wondering if I should've looked more on the Southern shorelines to find fish that were trying to stay out of the wind. I know the Northern shoreline warms up quicker but water warmth hasn't been a problem this year. I saw very few beds this year so it got me to thinking...especially considering the weather we've had.

North East shore lines are still producing the best for me.

You ever fish Istokpoga? Gonna be down there a lot this coming week and haven't been there since I was a kid. Planning on a shad spawn situation with most of the bass in a post spawn mood. I'm going to look for some beds but I'm not holding out hope on seeing too many with fish on them. The only fish I've seen on bed this year were in December. Only saw empty beds in Kissimmee...what beds I could find or actually see.

It's been a couple of years for me. Last I was down there the hydrilla was topped out everywhere and we were punching the outside edges. Also fishing a spinner bait in the cypress on the south west corner.

Anyone here know what stage the bass are in here in NC. I went to the Roanoke river, put in at Plymouth caught one decent 2-3 lber and a small striper Most fish marked were deep. Also our winds were out of the south alot here this winter too so the water temp is up quick, got up to 57.5 yesterday. Thats higher than normal. Will they spawn sooner this year. Cant wait to get to Gaston for the pre-spawn

If the water temps are already getting into the high 50's start paying attention to the low air temps at night. If they don't dip down into the mid to low 40's for two or three nights in a row and the daytime highs stay in the 70's you should expect to see sustained water temps in protected pockets in the low 60 in just a couple of days. This means they will probably be spawning. I would suspect that the males are already in the shallows and the big females are cruising along the first break line in 8 to 15ft of water as we speak. I'll be fishing southern NC in the morning. It should be ideal for prespawn monsters. :)

this week is supposed to be in the 70's with upper 30's at night. We had frost yesterday morning. I am in eastern central nc. Gaston should be cooler than my home waters since it is on the nc va border right?
