InLikeFinz Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 I caught this on a local NC lake and need some help identifying it. Unfortuately, when I tried to hold the fish up for the camera, it lept out of my hands and back into the lake. Can anyone identify this fish during the catch? Pike or Pickerel possibly? Thanks, Jason http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juX_VGCte2Q&feature=youtu.be Quote
jeremyt Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Couldn't get a real good look at it, but from the length and girth I would say it's probably a chain pickerel. Quote
InLikeFinz Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 It didn't have teeth like I expected it to. It looked like someone took a largemouth bass and squished it through a Play Dough Fun Factory. The jaw had an elongated shape and it cut my line IN the kayak, ha! Pickerel it is! First one ever! Kind of stoked about that to be honest. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 12, 2012 Super User Posted March 12, 2012 It's got teeth, don't lip them. 1 Quote
InLikeFinz Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 Yeah, there was NO WAY I was touching that things mouth, haha!. I held the line and swung him in. Then the line snapped and I said "ruh roh". Ha! Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted March 13, 2012 Super User Posted March 13, 2012 pickeral can be a blast to catch, seems like there is always more than one, and they are typically very eager to hit your offering. Quote
quanjig Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 That looked to be a nice pickerel at that!! Quote
