What Reel?

I need a reel for crankbaits but I do not know what to get. I am thinking either a Shimano chronarch 200e6 or an Abu Garcia revo stx. Is one of these better then the other or are they about the same? I have a curado 200e7 and 50e and love them but I want to try something else. For some reason I feel like the Abu Garcia reels are cheap and Shimano is way better but a lot of people say the revo reels are amazing.

Depending if your up for it or not but seems like the Shimano brand including Chronarch must places like bassprodhop.com and gandermountain.com are doing a $30 mail in rebate. Basspro has a rebate on the STX just not sure if or how much.

You won't notice a difference between your curados and the new chronarch. I'd suggest a Lew's Tournament Pro.

What about the revo stx? Is it any good and how is it compared a curado 200e. That Lew's looks good but I have never heard of them much so I'm not sure if I would get one or not.

The Lew's tournament pro has a nice following here. I never missed with either but like how the Lew's felt at the store. I do love my Curado as well and good enough for me.

I researched the Lew's a bit and all the reviews say it is way better then the curado so I might have to give it a try.

You say in your original post you want a reel for cranking? What type of cranking? I would not recomend or use the same reel I use for deep cranking as I do for shallow/GP cranking.

I want it for top water and shallow diving. I think I have decided on a 6.5:1 gear ratio chronarch.

Should be fine, those are great cranking rods for the $$. It's one rod I wish I didn't sell. Mine was a7' M, but it was a good GP cranking rod.

I have a curado 50e on it right now but I will be putting that on a Phenix recon 6'8" light rod.

I have a chronarch and a few citicas and my cousin fishes with the revo sx, so I have got to fish both. The revo is smoother but I'm a shimano guy. That being said, I'd go with the abu just because I would want to try something new as well...on second thought I love my shimanos and they are incredibly durable and easy to upgrade. Plus, I think their breaking system is more consistent...but...

They are both great reels, so good luck deciding.

Just to answer this question, the STX is a great reel. Both are nice reels, but the STX has better range of lure weights. It's dual braking system allows you to easily adjust for throwing light square bills to heavier topwaters and deeper diving cranks. I use the 200E mostly for 3/8oz and up jigs and rigs. I'm sure it'd work great for deep diving cranks, but I'd not want to use it for an KVD 1 or 1.5 sized bait.

Shimano is way better? Well that depends on what model Abu to Shimano you are comparing. I originally had a Revo S and really liked it and decided to upgrade ...Now I've been using a Revo STX HS for the last 2 years and love it. Super smooth, great drag and has been zero probs. I just recently used a brand new Shimano Curado 200 series and liked my STX much better.

I would decide your budget on a reel and see what Abu or Shimano you like the best. You seriously won't go wrong with either.

I am thinking about the revo stx because of the extra drag and the dual braking system. I do not want to get the Lew's because I read some bad things about them. So now it's between the revo stx and the chronarch.

I have both the Chronarch and STX and really like them both. The STX looks and feels like a "better" made product. Less plastic than the E series, but because of that it weighs more and it is a noticeable difference. Both reels can cast a mile when set up right. Between the two the STX is noticeably smoother while reeling.

I would recommend the STX because you said you want to try something different. The Chronarch is the same as your Curado, just with a different handle and paint job. Then again, if you lobe your Curado you know you'll love the Chronarch, lol.

Got my revo stx today and after casting in the yard I like my curados better but we will see what I like better after I fish with it.
