-nick- Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I just got this yesterday and was able to fish it all morning but I noticed the paint/finish is sort of chipping in some places. I thought it was the hooks at first but the hooks reached a little short of the chip. Is there anything i can do to avoid this from happening or is it even that big of a deal? Quote
J-B Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 If you just got the bait, and the chipping is not due to your lure hitting anything, I would contact Matt ASAP. The man provides awesome customer service IMO. I have had some of his baits for a while now and I have had no chipping problems that I have noticed. It might be a flaw in the paint job. Shoot Matt an email and talk to him about it. I feel confident that he will try to make you a happy customer. J-B Quote

I haven't even caught a fish on it and it has quite a few. And I haven't thrown it anywhere near something hard since i just got it and was already paranoid about something happening to it. haha Quote
J-B Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I understand the paranoia thing. When one is not used to spending bigger bucks on a lure they are scared to cast it out. I was like that when I fist got mine (I still am a lil bit). I always make sure I have a solid knot on the bait before it gets near the water. It takes some practice to learn where to use it effectively, at least it did for me. I learned to use it along the edges of weed lines ond over drop-offs the most. I have not had the guts to use it over a brush pile yet because of the fear of a fish taking it into the pile. If that happened, I think I would have to pull that pile right out of the water to get my bait back. Quote

mrlitetackle Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 dont be worried man, i have 2 of the hardgills, and trust me their gonna get beat up over time anyways.... there are layers of paint on them, so unless its a massive chunk out of the bait, then it should still have some color... in fact, the more mine take a beating... the more attention they have seemingly got! it makes them looks as if they really were wounded, or not in prime health... have fun with it man, its a great bait! (if your worried about losing it, do what i did...... make the switch to 30lb braid...... that'll keep it on the line ) Quote

One is actually a pretty good chunk! haha I just have only used it one morning without contact of anything hard i'd hate to see what it'll look like in a week or 2. I've emailed matt and he said he's going to take care of it for me! Quote

Mattlures Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Of course I will touch up the bait for Nick. Thats a given. I would like to say that Nick sent me pics of the bait and IMO the chips are tiny. each one of them looks like they could be completley covered with the head of a finishing nail. Except one chip thats slighly bigger on the peck fin. It must have hit something or ben pulled over a rock etc. It is still a very small chip. HOWEVER this bothers Nick so it bothers me. He has an open offer for me to touch it up for him Quote

Which is the main reason I'm trying to stick towards his swimbaits as much as possible! Great guy. Quote
J-B Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I agree that Matt is a great guy. The way he stands behind his stuff is leagues above most anyone else that I have met. His quality and support is more than enough to have me going back to him for more baits in the future. Quote
