Good starter setup. Moving forward and as you get more hooked you will see that there are better options for the same amount of money.

But both rod and reel will serve you well. I have had a blackmax for 4 years and a conolon rod for about 2. Although they have been resigned to back up duty they still work perfectly well

Its all up to you. For a guy who goes out 5-10 times a season, that set up may work just fine. Someone who fishes hard say 2,3+ days a week may want a setup which can be reliable and take heavy use better, and just be more of a pleasure to fish with smooth, quality gear.

When i first started,i was constantly upgrading my "cheaper" gear every season, and it definitely helped me out. Lighter rods & reels, more technique specific gear [jigs/topwater/crankin..etc.]

Keeps me on the water longer with much less equipment failure. It can also engulf you and get out of control where you think about it night and day and becomes an obsession which is never ending..i'll

stop now!!

If you like it,by all means use it,nothing wrong with your gear at all..

Fish the heck out of it!!! The fish don't know what it is. I have an old Mitchell baitcast reel that nust be 20 years old, still works fine.

Goof Luck

Oh boy, this is where it all starts. I give it a year and the bug is gonna hit you. Its a great starter, but you soon see the obsession kick in. Its like a bag of chips, I bet you cant fish just one.

You should do fine with that combo. IMHO, the ABU Black Max is the best of the "bargain pried" reels out there.

It probably wouldn't stand up to hauling 8 lb. bass out of heavy cover on a daily basis, but I have had one of the newer versions on my "truck rig" for a couple of years now, and it's performed very well, handling several bass in the 5 - 6 lb. range and numerous smaller fish.

As others have said, you'll probably want to add more rods and reels to your arsenal as you gain experience and want to try new methods,

The fish don't care what you paid for your gear.
