Been looking into picking up a 6"8" to 7' rod for jerkbaits and have been looking at Med action Kistler magnesiums for sale on here, EBAY and a couple other forums. My question is, are they discontinued or is there problems with them because it seems a lot of folks seem to have them for sale. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything. Thanks

There are better rods out there for less money. I either broke, or had an issue with every kistler I owned, and I would think long and hard about owning one again.

WW2farmer, what kind of problems did you experience with Kistler rods? Over the years, I've owned Kistler Heliums, Argons, Mag TS's, and Carbon Steels, and I've never had a problem with any of them. I did have one get damaged in shipping, but they replaced it free of charge and without hassle.

Mainly there customer service. I had a Mag TS that had epoxy in one of the guides, and basicly was told to live with it, or pay to have it shipped both ways, plus the cost of labor to fix.......the guide would have been free..........geeze thanks fellas. I also had an Argon crankbait rod break, and because they were out of production, and at the time there was no compareable rod in there line up I was SOL on a replacment, even though I bought it new a short time before it broke. Rods break, but for them to not have a suitable replacement for me was/is absurd. They offered a 7'8" Mag TS flipping stick, to me with free shipping and 25% off list price. I don't see how replacing a 7'9" MH crankbait rod with a H powered flipping stick is acceptable, so I declined their "fair" offer. And just the overall quality of the rods...they are not worth $150+, they were no where near the rods St Croix Avids are. Which I have also broke, but for shipping and $50..............NO MATTER WHAT.....you get a new rod, and if it's there fault it broke, you pay nothing but shipping.

I ended up getting rid of all of the Kistlers I had, after that. What good would it do me to be worrying about them breaking, or if they did, how would they deal with me. With St Croix there have been no worries. Sucks too, cause NOW they offer a 7'9 telescopic cranking rod again, but they won't get anymore business from me. I will just have to live with the fact my 7'10" St croix cranker and 7'11 flipping rod are not telescopic and ride on my boat deck year round. There are worse problems to have...............like owning more Kistlers.

I have the 7'MH Magnesium Senco rod with micros and my only complaint is the fat grip.

I also have 2 other Kistlers.

Kistler makes a good stick IMHO, Some will complain about their poor warenty...

I see they have started to sell rod blanks but they are $250 EACH!!!!

I have also had issues with their warranty. I had a rod break a couple years ago and they tried to make me pay half of the rods retail for a new one. The rod was not broken on a hard hookset or a car door. I took a closer look at the rod, and it had broken underneath the guide wraps on the rod (it was also a perfect perpendicular break to the length of the rod), a place that would be impossible for me to scratch. I kept really good care of the rod, never stepped on it, boat lifted fish, high sticked a fish, and I always stored it in a rod tube during travel or in its rod sock. They insisted it was my fault, and soon after trying to reason with them they discontinued the rod. This is truly the only rod that I had break without my fault, and with the customer service I had received, I will never by Kistler again or will I ever encourage someone to do so.

Also, the stick was a magnesium ts and it was not very sensitive at all compared to an allstar rod of same length and action for half the price. I would give the company a solid two thumbs down, but then again it is my own opinion and I know of others that beg to differ.

The reason I stay away from them is simple, do a search on the rods they made in the last 5 to 7 years and see how many of them have different components, different blanks, and the discontinued rods after a short production period. Get a magnesium from 3 different years and you get basically 3 different rods as none have the same blank or components.

Yes...I forgot to mention that. The Mag TS's I had were different rods. One had Fuji guides/reel seat and a light green blank, the other had mystery guides and reels seats and a grayish blank.

Kistler is now claiming a 1% breakage rate for the last 2 years! They claim to make the strongest rods on the market !

I saw on Facebook they had a coupon code to get $50 off certain rods. I may get a 6'10'' MF Carbon it's only $60 TYD!

And It's a micro rod!
