Traveler2586 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Anyone been out on the Middle Potomac (Chain Bridge to RT. 301 Bridge) lately and can recall the water temp? Same question for any of the creeks Cheers, Eric Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 8, 2012 Super User Posted March 8, 2012 It was two weeks ago since I was out there last, the temps were 42-43 degrees. I doubt it has changed much. Some of my club members are going out today, if I hear anything I will let you know. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 Thanks Brian, Two weeks ago this coming Monday I was working the mouth of the Mattawoman and the temp at DM-3 was 43.5. I wish we had some water monitoring stations that gave more than just tides, i.e. temp, currents, turbidity, etc. The only "Smart" buoy I know of is just off Point Lookout on the Lower Potomac . Super User BrianinMD Posted March 8, 2012 Super User Posted March 8, 2012 This won't help right now but hopefully soon. http://buoybay.noaa.gov/locations/upper-potomac.html#twoj_fragment1-2 1 Quote
basser89 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Not sure if this will help or not but here's a river gauge that I've been tracking that has temps included: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/md/nwis/uv?site_no=01646500 1 Quote

This is exactly what I'm looking for!! When did they first put this in?? Is it at buoy 30? Don't know why they refer to this as the upper Potomac? I wonder what they call the Potomac above Great Falls?? Brian, thanks for sharing this with me. Cheers, Eric Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 9, 2012 Super User Posted March 9, 2012 if I remember correctly it has been in 2 years, just each year its pulled for winter. But when its in it is giving information for exactly where we need it. As for listing it as "Upper Potomac" I have no idea, this is the only place I have ever seen anything below Great Falls called that. This is still in tidal water, how its "upper" I don't know. Interested to see how this area goes over the next two weeks, my club's first tourney of the year is on the 24th out of Gravely Point. Quote

How's the parking been at Gravely Point? During the week days the lot can get full of commuter parking. Last fall I got some nice SM around bridge pilings, and at the power plant discharge. Cheers, Eric Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 9, 2012 Super User Posted March 9, 2012 The parking is horrendous to put it mildly, if the weather is in anyway decent it will be full of people going to the little park there to watch the planes. This is in addition to numerous people trying to put boats in, a good portion them have no idea what they are doing. I fish as a coangler, so my stops are up to my boater. I just hope he doesn't go to the poopy plant (Blue Plains). 1 Quote
Traveler2586 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 Aw, it's not as bad as it was years ago, it would drive you out of the area if the wind changed Be very careful around FoxFerry, the MD side from the dock down to Pendrods Cove can be dangerous at low tide. Good fishing' Cheers, Eric Quote
Fat Boy Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I usually get the river temps at Little Falls from this site: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/md/nwis/uv?01646500 It's not working today for some reason. I checked a few days ago and the river surface temps were 48 and holding. I'd bet that the temps further down river are a degree or two warmer, especially after yesterday. Quote
