lynyrdsky1 Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Hey guys, I've been fishing this certain area that I'm pretty sure has a few beds in it. It is up against a bank, in about 1 to 2 feet of water. When I was on it I caught multiple fish back to back but they were all males. What I am thinking is that they are building the nest and the females are staging. With the water warming I think they will move into position in a week or so. Only problem is the water clarity is stained at best. It isn't dirty but it isn't clear. Anyone have any suggestions? Super User J Francho Posted March 7, 2012 Super User Posted March 7, 2012 It's all about "coverage" - both of them. Just fish the appropriate bait that covers the area, but handles the cover present. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted March 7, 2012 Super User Posted March 7, 2012 Use a reaction bait first to see if you can get them to show you where they're coming from. Then pick that area apart with slower baits. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted March 7, 2012 Super User Posted March 7, 2012 KVD did it with a Squarebill Crankbait last year to win the classic. He'd find the stumps and make dozens of cast at the stump till he got bit. Reaction baits work great. Topwater works good to. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted March 7, 2012 Super User Posted March 7, 2012 Austin, I don't know where you are fishing, but I AM hearing early reports of male bass making beds in the shallower waters as of this week. Just letting you know! Jeff Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 7, 2012 Super User Posted March 7, 2012 Get a Humminbird Side Imaging unit and you can see them on the beds and fish directly for them no matter what the water color is or what depth the beds are. Quote

Super User 00 mod Posted March 8, 2012 Super User Posted March 8, 2012 At horseshoe, I would bet under the lilly pads in the under 4 foot range would be good right now. Also the south west bank where it gets shallow would be the place to be. I would stay away from the docks, as they are for the most part deeper, even though it "seems" like the place to be. Just my game plan for this time of year. Also back off the bank a little, until you find where it starts to get a little deeper, and you might find big mama looking to stage and come up!! Jeff Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 Is south west the bank kind of across from carefree? Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted March 9, 2012 Super User Posted March 9, 2012 Same bank as Lilly pads but south. Yes kinda opposite of carefree. Jeff Quote
