Lake Moomaw

Hi guys, im goin to be making a trip to Lake Moomaw around the end of May to do some bass fishing. I've read that some good places to try are:

-Greenwood Point

-McClintick Point

-Coles

-Hughes Draft

I've looked on some maps, but im having trouble figuring out where these places are.... if someone could help, I'd really appreciate it.

And if you have any other spots to try, id be very thankful.

As you are looking out from the boat ramp, down at the water, you want to start fishing to the left, and run all the way up as close to the bridge as you can, all the way up through there is some really good fishing, as you work back toward the backside of Moomaw, there are coves lined with tree tops, yes tree tops, you will be 15 yards of shore and in 50 feet of water or more, depending on the lake level. I have found that swim baits and jigs work great along with Senko's, Jigs work well for me since that is what I love to fish the most.

Yes the one located close to the campgrounds.

Your welcome, Have you ever been there before? I get the impression you may not have.

A couple of things you need to know about, when you go left from the ramp, the water can get very shallow in a hurry, also if you go right from the ramp you need to stay to your right as you head out to the larger part of the lake, once the lake opens up the only other real issue you may encounter is next to the HUGE rock wall, the lake will narrow and split, stay to the left especially if the water level is down, then it opens up again and you get to the coves and stuff, ok.

Take your time when moving from place to place and enjoy the sights, it can be breathtaking, one more note, storms come in quickly and can catch you by surprise, pay close attention to the weather forcast !!!!

never been, but im really excited to try it. ive heard great things. i was looking on google earth - and i could see what youre talking about with the water shallowing up. especially towards the bridge. are the tree tops you were talking about up in that direction? or back towards the main lake?

In addition to the fine bass fishing, there is a great population of trout in Moomaw too! Big 'uns! Make sure you take some time for them as well...

I Forgot all about that !!

I did talk to some of the locals there, I do not know if it is still the same but they said to fish about 30 feet deep and they will find you.

There are some pretty good size trout, and pictures all over the place to prove it, a lot of them seem to be huge brown trout.

You can catch the trout on topwater baits in the middle of the day over 50' depths if you pay attention and are in the right location.

Around the end of May traditionally you can catch largemouth and smallmouth bass on shallow flats.

The spawning is about a month later than lakes East of the Blue Ridge.
