Orpssab Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Last time I posted, I was preparing for my 3rd trip this winter to South Florida. Based upon what happened last trip, I bought lots of snakehead stuff like Zoom's Horny Toads and Ribbitt frogs, 4/0 and 5/0 hooks etc. But as often happens I caught only 1 snakehead during the whole trip...But did catch lots of largemouth's! We first headed to Loxahatchee on Monday and Tuesday. We caught 58 on Monday and 67 on Tuesday using wacky rigged senko's and trick worms. Most of the larger fish came from the canal with many smaller ones flats along the sawgrass edges and eelgrass beds. Largest went 6 pounds with several 3's and 4's. Wednesday and Thursday fished residential canals in Coconut Creek and Pompono Beach. Figured here is where I'm going to get some snakeheads...NO...just more largemouth's. Caught over 50 for the two days. Then Friday I fished Wynmore off Copans Rd. Now here is where I really caught some nice bass in all those ponds. largest landed was probably close to 8 lbs! Even had a few break me off. We headed back home on Saturday morning through tornado weather all up I-95 back to South Carolina! Some pics from Lox: 1 Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted March 6, 2012 Super User Posted March 6, 2012 Snakeheads are more in the Coral Springs, Tamarac, Margate regions. The C-14 canal is a hot canal to fish for them. Other than that, looks like you did pretty good out here. Next time, try fishing the canal that runs along the Sawgrass and 75. You can launch out of Markham Park to access it. That canal is loaded with Snakeheads. They are all along the edges of the canals, and swimming for food around 5-6 in the afternoon. Quote
Shane Procell Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Sounds and looks like yall had a great time. The flats at Lox have just not loaded up.....yet. It should be going off sometime this month for sure. Thanks for the report! Great photos. Quote
Orpssab Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 Thanks Gambler. We had actually thought about going to Markam Park but just ran out of time. Next trip. And Shane, Thanks...Love your u-tube videos of your snakehead fishing. When is the next snakehead roundup? Maybe I'll make a trip down for that. Quote

Thanks for the compliment. I have noticed that the normal area we have been finding the snakeheads are being shocked regularly by the FWC. The more obscure and out of the way spots are still giving up huge fish. BTW, my friend and fishing buddy, Corey Nowakowski just summitted a pending I.G.F.A. world record 12 pound snakehead. I'll post up that picture tonight. Quote
