Missouribassman95 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Well I picked up a bag of Chompers Skirted Grubs at BPS today, and the label said they had a garlic scent to them. I thought "Well it can't be that bad" but boy was I wrong! I opened them in the car on the way home and I gagged because the smell was so incredibly bad! Stunk up the car. And when I brought them up to my room they stunk up the whole upstairs to the point where my parents made me throw them away. I wasted six dollars. Did I just get a bag that was over saturated with scent? Or have any of you guys had problems with Chompers over saturating their lures? Kinda makes me wonder why they put scent on the lures anyways, its not like the scent alone attracts the fish. Quote
Packard Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I haven't smelled the chompers but the Powerteam Texas Rig Jig is terrible smelling. I prefer a non-scented or coffee-scented bait. Quote
Vinny Chase Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 They are all that way. You're right though, the garlic punches you in the face! Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Yep...that's pretty much how they smell. Still worth digging out of the trash. Quote
Scorcher214 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Had a 100ct bag of some berkley powerworms, opened them, grabbed a few, and headed down the street to do some fishing. I forgot to close the bag and when I got back, whole upstairs stank like powerbait. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 5, 2012 Super User Posted March 5, 2012 You can't beat the Chompers finesse worms for drop shotting. Just make sure you warn your buddy before opening the package. Powerful stuff! I don't think I've ever had any other bait with as strong a smell. And the smallies love 'em. Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted March 5, 2012 Super User Posted March 5, 2012 Chompers is not allowed in my boat...................seriously. On the flip side, I love SK's coffee scent, I often just take a wiff for the heck of it LOL. Quote

I dipped a few paddle tails in Spike It garlic scent the other day and hung them up to dry. Came home and went downstairs and the whole basement smelled like garlic. Ill never make that mistake again. Quote
Phranchise1213 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Chompers definitely reeks. Have also had success with their drop shot worms. Before I bought them, I remembered reading something about leaving the bag closed in the house and car, so I never made that mistake. The wife probably would of made me throw them out too tho. hah Quote
Super User grimlin Posted March 5, 2012 Super User Posted March 5, 2012 Ever smell JJ's magic....It'll cause temporary blindness...LOL Quote

Super User Gone_Phishin Posted March 5, 2012 Super User Posted March 5, 2012 They do stink, but they are fantastic baits. As already said, dig them out of the trash; keep them in the garage if possible. Quote
SausageFingers Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Lake Fork is pretty horrendous also. They do catch fish though. Quote
B@ssCrzy Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 They do stink pretty bad. Just double and triple bag them, but don't throw them away!! Quote
jkarol24 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 If i had the choice between the garlic, powerbait, and coffee i would take the garlic all day. Powerbait makes me gag and dry heave and the coffee has a sickening sweet smell to me. The garlic is tolerable (hey, im Italian!). And there is an added bonus: Lets say you've got a tourney and you are launching at 6:30 and your real tired. One wiff of that garlic will wake you up guaranteed. Almost as good as smelling salt Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 6, 2012 Super User Posted March 6, 2012 I'm thinking what did you expect? Chompers smell like garlic, they've always smelled like garlic. Doesn't it say on the packaging "garlic scented"? You shouldn't have thrown them away. Maybe keep them in the garage or something. I think Chompers are good baits. Quote
Jacob34 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Those chompers are one of my favorite soft plastics, that and roboworms. I probally have every color in roboworms 4 1/2" straight tail. Quote
POPRG Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Gamblers are really strong garlic too,but they sure do catch! Ever get a whiff of the keitech squid scent?? Quote
