-nick- Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I've been looking into getting some big swimbaits, and notice quite a few of them have colors of male bluegill or female bluegill. It always seems like female bluegill sell out faster is there an advantage to one or the other? Time to use one or the other or is it just a preference thing? Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 2, 2009 Super User Posted October 2, 2009 The fact that the female finish runs out of stock faster doesn 't mean it sells more, it only means it runs out of stock faster. You can 't determine how many baits were purchased by the dealer when their order was placed, maybe he stocked 10 baits in female finish while stock 50 in male finish, so female finish will run out of stock faster. Infidel. Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Raul is right. I have the Matt lures hard gill in both colors and they seem to be equally productive for me. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted October 2, 2009 Super User Posted October 2, 2009 I will throw either of them at any time of the year, but I feel the female BG closely resembles more panfish species at any given time of the year. Typically, Male BG swimbaits are painted to resemble a spawning male with more pronounced colors and shades. Most of the year, bluegill have a more subdued and plain look that is better represented by the female version. Quote

Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted October 2, 2009 Super User Posted October 2, 2009 Hardgill, yes. Soft, not yet. I typically use the soft gill as a bed fishing bait in the spring. Trust me, it will get a workout. I have a couple ideas for one lake in particular. Quote

Yeah I've never bought based on what goes out of stock faster it was merely an observation....Thanks guys for the responses Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted October 2, 2009 Super User Posted October 2, 2009 from time to time i fish with live bluegills and i find that the males get CRUSHED !!!! . it's like the bass really don't like the males and are real aggressive towards them , i know , kinda hard to explain . but yeah when i get some Mattlures blue gills , i will definitly get the males ......... mrlitetackle Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 i dont know personally if one has an advantage over the other, but i do own a ML hardgill in the male BG pattern, and it produces quite well. Quote
TheHammer84 Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 not sure, but I know the Luhr Jensen Speed Trap in Male Bluegill absolutely gets crushed by bass. Quote
