Came down yesterday from canada, took out a guide but only managed a couple since we were limited to the dynamite holes. Guide didn't have a jackplate to get us out into the boat lanes.I'm flying out monday around 8. I was hoping to experience florida bass but no luck yet, any suggestions? Or anyone offering a guide service who's on some fish?

Timing just was wrong for you. With the front that blew through I'll bet it was really rough out there today. There were several tournaments this weekend. But I have not heard how they faired. To bad you are leaving so soon. Next weekend maybe a whole different thing. Lately it's been taking well over 20# to cash a check.

Don, you probably don't want to hear this, but the main lake was on fire Saturday. Five teams broke 30lbs in the McMillian tourney out of Belle Glade, Saturday. Pre-frontal conditions turned em on good. Today (Sunday) was not nearly as good. A nasty squall came through about 9:30 and blew out alot of the areas where they'd been catching em. I fished the KOTG qualifier out there, today, and only a few boats broke 20lbs....22lbs won.

I'm surprised that a guide can't get on the lake when the level is 13ft. All the main lake cuts have 4 feet of water in them.

If your guide stuck you in the dynamite holes yesterday then he did bad by you. Today was a different story. Bad day to be on the lake.

That storm that blew through was the worst one i've been through on the lake.... It only lasted a few minutes, but man i thought we were going swimming.... We called it quits early the wind made fishing near impossible..... Most of the guys that caught them had them before the storm....

Painful to hear about your unfortunate trip. Even without a jackplate, it should be no trouble to get out on the Lake and the Lake indeed was on fire on Saturday. We fished the Jimmy M tournament and were the first NOT to get a check with 25.05-winner had I think 34. I was glad I wasn't out there yesterday. It had to be tough. Next time you come down, I'd like to suggest you get some feedback from some people here, either publicly or by PM and you can get set up properly.

I agree...no reason that a guide shouldn't be able to get on the lake at 13ft. If that were the case, he'd be fishing the rim canal/dynamite holes about 6 months a year. Can't imagine you'd stay in business long like that. My guess....he wanted to save on gas, given current prices. I was running the lake last summer sub 10ft and I don't have a jackplate. And I've only been fishing the lake a couple years...

Dave, glad you got in on the good bite Saturday.

We were on the main lake, yesterday, when that squall came through. The gusts had to be pushing 45-50mph for a while there. It was tropical storm type stuff.

I think you had a bad guide, like already mentioned the lake isn't crazy low yet and if he doesn't know his way around at this or any level hes no guide.

Thanks for the responses guys. So like you all know saturday was a right off for us being in the dynamite holes, and ps we launched out of belle glade and saw the memorial tournament hosting there with all the prizes. cool stuff....

knowing that the winds were going to be high sunday we decided not to get out on the water. However yesterday we did, we hired another guide for a half day 8-1 we launched out of okeechobee and fished a couple cuts off the main channel.. once again we sat in two spots all day because the "wind" was too high and it wasnt worth going out to battle wind.. All in all I was disappointed with the guides, and mind you we hired 3 different ones. I understand that weather is always a factor in how well you can do on the water but a positive attitude is more important, when not even trying to get out and move around when the fishing is slow thats just bs. 3 weeks ago during the flw tournament we also flew down and hired 2 guides for our trip with poor results also, understandable because of the big cold front thats why we decided to come out again this weekend. All in all we spent over 1000 dollars on guides from 3 weeks ago and this weekend, not to include our flight, food and accomodations and im still not satisified with a true lake O fishing trip.. To be honest I dont know if I will go back. Id like to if I could bring my own boat or pay someone who is actually going to work for the money and get us on the fish, not someone whos going to dick us around and just take our hard earned money.. seeing gators is nice but that being the highlight of the trip 3 days out is crap...

Wow, that sucks!. I can't imagine any guide, no matter how lazy or jackplate-free, being goofy enough to launch out of Belle Glade on Saturday and get caught up in the business of a 100+ boat tournament. Yesterday had to be brutal also and there is no controlling the wind. Even the most experienced people will use caution on the Lake when it is blowing like yesterday or today. All that said, hope you don't give up on the Lake. The fishing itself speaks for itself with those results shown at that tournament at Belle Glade. If you decide to give it another shot and with some planning, some people here can give you names of guides who will work their butt off to have you have a great and memorable day. It takes a little planning-by that I mean the best guides are often booked weeks in advance. One of my guide-friends out of Clewiston told me that except for the off-limits period for the FLW tournament, he's been on the water guiding 67 days in a row. Also, this time of year has its issues. It may be warm but it is usually blowing as this is by far the windiest time of the year. So-hope you reconsider and if you do, it goes well for you

I know several guides who work it hard up there. Brett with Bass On Line and Steve McDonald with BassMaster Guide service. Just two who I can say are working the Big O hard, and on fish. Sorry you had a bad experience.
