Scorcher214 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 If I can have something customozed in the way it looks, I will. I like my stuff to be unique. So I though about painting my reels. I don't use my Daiwa procaster anymore so I thought I could test it out on that, then perhaps do my TD advantage. Anybody done this? If so, what works and what doesnt? I don't own an airbrush so would a spray can work good? Quote
EdH Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Use the search function on this forum- try "painted reels" Quote
Scorcher214 Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 Did that before asking this question. The only thing that comes up when searching in tacklemaking for "painted reels", was your comment lol. Quote
telmomarques Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 go to tackletour.com and go to forums, theres a guy named calfish, he done the best paining for reels, contact him, send your reel and he will paint for u Quote
Scorcher214 Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 Just found this site: http://www.oscarbassbaits.com/reel-gallery.html Take a look at the reels they have done, they look pretty fresh. Only downside is you have to take apart the reel yourself and send in the pieces you want painted. Quote
Bass Dude Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I'd say find a really old reel, or one you don't careabout, and give it a try with spray paint. After all, spray paint is basically an airbrush in a can! Just go over it with poly or clear coat and you should be OK. You're just painting on plastic, so the paint should stick. Just my 2 pennies! Scorcher214 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 Those look sweet! Did you just take off the side plates or did you take the gear assembly off as well? Quote
Scorcher214 Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 Ya, I can take the sides off of my procaster easily, its just that I want to paint the frame as well but do not feel taking the gears out because I tried it with an different cheapy one and couldn't put it back together. I think tomorrow I'll go buy some paint and try it on the procaster. Thinking purple and black. Quote
bassinjody39 Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 U could take the spool out and tape the line guide and worm gear up and paint it that way to . Quote
Scorcher214 Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 Heres the procaster. The left side turned out nice but the right side was a little ehhh. Couldn't get the netting flat against the reel so it didn't turn out tooooo nice, but I'm proud of it for my first attempt! I also just painted a rod I bought for 2 bucks when they went on sale. Used some black krylon fusion which is what Mudhole sells for painting rods. Works very nicely. Bends with the rod and seems somewhat durable. Quote
bassinjody39 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 nice some times if u cant get netting to lay flat just cut around it and paint that as a accent . looks killer for the first one though. Quote
